It sounds like possible fuel starvation. If the vehicle has a carburetor, then I would suggest cleaning it first, if not then please report.

My car will not start in the mornings or any extended periods of time .It will start after it has run for a while. It spits and sputters and shakes when trying to start it.When it does start and I press on...

here are a few possibilitys, a bad fuel pressure regulator . the vehicle runs rough, the engine will not start ( usually in mornings ) many times engine starts but stalls shortly after starting. a bad regulator can result in fouled plugs. replacement is only cure. black soot on plugs, blake smoke from tailpipe, running rough, stalling. make sure fuel filter is not plugging up. or low fuel pressure from fuel pump. check fuel pressure regulator first. have a good day !! the regulator if bad will cause an instant drop in fuel pressure when turned off. and it will cause a delay in building sufficient fuel pressure,.when starting.

You're running lean. A common problem in Mazdas is a delayed fuel pressure build up from the fuel pump. There's a service bulletin out on that condition. Do you experience a rough idle, stall, or hesitation?

Prime the pump six or seven times by turning the key from off to on position. There is a 2-3 second delay on the relay, so make sure to give it time to reset between should hear the pump engage each time. It should attempt to fire after that, and you can sometimes help it avoid stalling by feathering the gas pedal. You may have to repeat the procedure a few times.

When I am asked for advice regarding similar concerns, I always ask the owner to check the wiring and the terminals since it is the cheapest fix. You can also check the ignition coil if it is ok.
