Question about Cars & Trucks
My steering is stiff whilst going slow and parking. Think it's the steering fluid needs replacement. Can you advise as only just bought this car. Oh and I'm a woman! (say no more)
It sounds more like the power steering pump as failed. When the fluid is low the pump usually squeals. Certainly check the fluid level first. Hopefully your owners manual can tell you where the top up is. You could try the drop in at a mechanic to have a "quick look" which he should do at no charge, some may ask you to book it in for them to check it over though just make sure if you do that it is clear that they either advise upfront charge for check or that they won't charge anything until they discuss with you first. If you have any doubts then just tell them you want to pick the car up and that you need to budget for the repairs first.

SOURCE: stiff steering
do you live in high salted areas? If so, My freestyle had the same problem. It's the joint in the steering column (you can see it from underneath the vehicle) Just keep it lubed. I had to replace mine because it had worn out. Expensive. Also, it could be the bearings on top of your front struts. Dirt gets into it and binds it up. Poor engineering designs.

Oops, sorry about that.....
The power steering fluid reservoir is located just behind the drivers (LHD) headlight, just forward of the washer fluid reservoir.
The reservoir has a green cap on it and a plastic trim panel to conceal the sides, it is circled here:
