Question about 2000 Ford Windstar

3 Answers

Stalling I was driving my 2000 ford windstar on sunday and it started to studer when i took off from a stop, then it stopped and it was acting fine. then the next day it started up and it was running alittle rought then it smoothed out. then I came to stop and it stalled, then it started right back up and now it doesn't want to idle or stay running. I have to keep my foot in it to keep it going. if it does idle, tries to idle at about 1000 rpms but it jumps up and down then stalls. I bought a CEN-TECH code reader (CAN OBD ll) and it said there where on errors.

I would change your plugs, wires, fuel filter, cap n rotor / coil packs, also check every single vacuum hose you can find for cracks or disconnections.

2000 windstar with a 3.8 motor cranks slow then stops and no start .Acts like a dead battery battery is good what can it be?

Bad connection or corroded cables, possibly a bad starter. Sounds like something is drawing more amps than the battery is capable of supplying.

The problem I'm having with my 2001 ford windstar is when you go to start the van the engine turns and the car starts but it sound like it's out of gas and the car sputters then dies. I kept doing this...

My 2000 Windstar with the 3.8 liter V6 had a stalling problem when idling. It ran fine down the road, but stalled at intersections. The fix was to replace the Idle Air Control Valve. It is an easy to replace item, since it is held on by two bolts right on the top of the Air intake from the air cleaner. I tried to clean the old one, with spray cleaner, but it only helped a little. Since stalling at an intersection is dangerous, especially when you need to get out of the way of oncoming traffic, I opted to just buy a new replacement valve. You can get one from O'Reileys, Autozone, PepBoys, NAPA, et. It cost almost $100, but how much would getting hit cost if you could not get out of the way of oncoming traffic. Replacing it took about ten minutes. My Windstar is now reliable when I need to blast off from a dead stop after idling at a signal. My Windstar is the favorite family vehicle for mountain trips, beach trips, Vegas trips, and the surfboards, sleds, people all fit nicely.

Here is a link to the valve that I got a NAPA just to show you what a small simple, but vital, part it is.
