Question about Land Rover Range Rover
The new dizzy ignition unit for 86 sd1 Rover 3.5 has 3 pins for coil plug, old one only had two. How do I match up the old 2 pin plug to the new 3 pin ignition unit please?.
This is a old one ,remember the old V8 well ,as when the vacumn unit failed it wouldnt start from cold ,advance timing by twisting distributor and it would start then reset timing and it would run all day but when cold the following day? now iam not sure here but look in the new wire and iam wrong here no doubt but it has two wires and a shroud around them and i think this shroud has a pin connection to earth hence your 3 pins but without my head under the bonnet to confirm i cannot be sure as the old gray matter declines in old age and i havent seen one of these cars in many a year so if iam right just leave shroud connection disconnected .My neighbour has one of these cars laying in the garden at last count its all their but the sun has destroyed the paintwork and the interior but no rot anywhere as this is spain and here their is no rain or very little

Hi, first check if you've got power to the coil. Have you checked all the fuses? If its not a fuse it may be a poor connection, possibly the ignition switch. Has your car got an immobiliser and if so is it inactive? If you still can't get power to the coil you can run a live direct from the positive battery terminal as a quick fix to enable you to drive it somewhere to get an auto electrician on it.

the flashing light indicates to the driver that the engine is under severe misfire wich could lead to damaging the cat. Have the codes pulled by autozone or advance they do it for free. Then start there but it sounds like it could be your oxygen sensor
