My right brake caliper of a 2006 VW polo is making noise when I'm driving how to it.

You will need to check to see if your VW has anti-lock brakes installed on it. The pistons that push in usually look like an inverted cup, hollow end facing the brake pads. The pistons with antilock brakes are usually solid across the top facing the brake pads and will need to be rotated in order for them to collapse back inwards. Some rotate easily, others are a bit more difficult. The pistons on my VW Beetle have two (2) angular grooves opposite one another. If your look like this you may be able to use the blunt end of some needle-nose pliars, or you can head over to your local auto parts retailer for a "magic box", a square cube with as many as five (5) different patterns for the buttons that insert into the angular grooves on different vehcles. Find the pattern that best fits your grooves and attache the magic box to a 3/8 rachet with an extension. Rotate the piston slowley in one direction, then the other to loosen it up. To collapse the piston I believe you will need to rotate counter clockwise. Good luck, this style piston is only on the rear wheels.

My 2004 makes a load clicking sound when i come to a stop and on the open road it pulls hard right. it has new brakes and has been inspected by multiple garages and it comes back fine. my question is cold...


Hi,
now a worn or damaged outboard CV joint would make a clicking noise while turning. when the vehicle pulls to one side during braking it could be a number of problems.
1. incorrect tire pressure
2. front end out of line
3. restricted brake lines or hoses
4. drum brake or caliper assembly are malfunctioning
5.loose suspension parts
6. loose calipers
7. excessive wear of brake shoe or pad material or disc/drum on one side

i myself own a 2006 hyundai and just did a complete all 4 wheel brake job including rotors.......saved a bundle, special tool for the back brakes for calipers...........also just bought a 2012 elantra.............love it.

Replace brake pads on 2007 vw polo


Park the polo on level ground, turn the engine off and apply the parking brake. Pull the hood release handle and move to the front of the car.

Lift the hood and remove the master cylinder. Remove one-half of the brake fluid inside the reservoir with a syringe.

Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels with a tire iron. Place the jack beneath the frame at the back of the Volkswagen and lift the back tires off the ground. Rest the rear axles of the Volkswagen on two jack stands. Remove the lug nuts and take the rear wheels off.

Reach behind the brake caliper to locate the caliper mounting pins. Remove the pins with a 12 mm socket and ratchet. Lift the caliper from the brake rotor and suspend it above the wheel assembly with a bungee cord or wire coat hanger.

Remove the rear brake pads from the slots in the caliper bridge. Inspect the caliper bridge and rotor for damage and significant wear. Replace the rotor if it is warped or badly scored. Scoring of the rotors can lead to break failure and will prematurely wear the new brake pads. Place new brake pads into the slots of the caliper bridge.

Attach the piston depression tool to the caliper. The tool will fit over the back side of the caliper and against the piston inside. Twist the tool's handle to force the piston into the side of the rear caliper. Remove the tool once the caliper piston is totally depressed within the caliper.

Replace the caliper onto the caliper bridge and screw in the caliber mounting pens by hand. Replace the rear wheel onto the wheel bolt and screw on the lug nuts.

Repeat the process for the other side of the rear of the polo. Lift the rear end of the vehicle with the jack and remove the jack stands. Lower the rear tires to the ground and tighten the lug nuts with a lug wrench.

Return to the engine compartment. Remove the master cylinder cap and check the level of brake fluid. Place a funnel into the container and fill the reservoir with brake fluid as needed.

the piston screws back. you can buy a tool at an auto parts place for a few dollars. it's a small cube shaped tool with various spaced nubs on each side for multiple vehicle use

I need to replace the rear brake pads on my Polo 1.9 TDi


this is a turn in caliper, meaning that as you try to compress the piston, you also need to rotate it clockwise. you can buy tool for this at nearly any parts store, and is fairly inexpensive.

You can get away with an allen key, or with an allen key type ratchet. 8mm for South African models.
