Re: 4 wheel drive lock button does not work or indicator...
The VTM-4 button will only "lock in" when you have the gear select lever in reverse, D1 or D2. If you accelerate past 18 mph the power levels will shift more to front wheels to reduce damage to rear differential. As far as the heat is concerned, have you set the heat to floor while out of the truck and checked for air flow with your hand? It doesn't seem to hit directly at your feet, more like mid-calf.

are you asking a driveline question, and is vastly complex. read it.
off the wiki, , does this help,? the Ridgeline is powered by a transversely mountedJ35A9, (2006-2008) J35Z5, (2009-present) 3.5 L V6 with a five speed automatic transmission. The all-wheel drive system operates in front-wheel drive mode under normal conditions and automatically transfers power to either rear wheel via a locking differential when it senses a loss of traction in the front. The VTM-4 system can be locked in first, second or reverse gears at speeds under 18 mph (29 km/h).
The VTM-4 lock (rear diff lock) works in full rear power mode up until 6 mph (9.7 km/h) then it gradually transitions to power to the front and releases the VTM-4 lock at 18 mph (29 km/h)
If you are driving on the highway in 4wd drive the poise may be from the tyres trying to slip and equalise the drive line torque that is building up . Rule of thumb for all 4 wd vehicles is to restrict 4wd to loose surfaces (gravel-snow-ice -grass- mud --any surface that allows the tyres to slip) to relieve the torque wind up.
Something you can do is to tap the 4/4 motor under drivers side on the back of transfer case with key on engine off. Have someone work the buttons as you gently tap the motor. Don't hit so hard as to dent it. Usually works.
are you having any particular problems with Your 08 Ridgeline? I am ! 4 wheel drive lock button, not functioning or indicator light, and No heat on the floor was told by dealer is all NORMAL! I do have a manual, I;d be happy to look something up for you. have you experienced any of these problems that are deemed NORMAL by the dealer? but I am also searching the net for answers or particular recalls.
That light sounds like a differential lock or 4-wheel drive. This is usually found in 4-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles. Being the light is "GREEN" and not amber or red tells me that it's not an abnormal problem.
Look around your dashboard or gearshifter for a button labeled 4x4 HI, 4x4 LO, 4x2 HI. sport/off road button, or a second, smaller shifter. Switch them around a little, and if it is a 4x4 selector, be sure when you drive on paved roads to have it set to 4x2 HI. 4x4 HI should only be used if you get stuck to help you get out (snow/mud) and 4x4 LO is only for off road driving (trail blazing/rock climbing/4-wheeling/mud bogging, etc.)
Also, check for any switches labled "DIFF LOCK" or 'AXLE LOCK". In most cars a green light is normal operations.
I hope I could help you find a solution to your problem.
