SOURCE: heater blower not working

I don't know if this is a long-term solution but I found it on another "how-to" website: on my 2001 E46 I removed the fuse (#50) for one minute. Something about the transistors inside the FSU (final stage unit, or blower resistor) resetting themselves with the constant power removed. I replaced it and drove home, which is a 1-hr drive, and the fan was on steady the whole time. Which it hasn't done in the 3 yrs I've owned it. I tested it at other speeds and it worked well. Don't know how long it will last though. If not, you need to replace the Blower Resistor - there about $75.

SOURCE: my 2000 e46 bmw heater blower not working, i've checked the fuse

The E46 blower resistor is harder to remove than the E39 .
Open the Glove box.
Remove the three phillips screws across the top of the open box. Remove the two phillip screws that are deeper in on the sides of the open box(nine and three o'clock). Hard to see, use your flashlight. With these five screw removed remove the glove box. Disconnect the flashlight charger plug, and the glove box light connector. Pay attention to the wire routing. Remove plastic cover behind glove box. Locate motor and metal link to one of the a/c doors. Remove the metal arm from the plastic clip. Slide motor out and disconnect. There is an odd shaped black plastic piece with two T-20 or 25 Torx screws that need to be removed.Remove plastic piece. The Final stage is located behind the metal arm for the a/c door.R emove the floor heater duct for more room. You may or may not feel the need. If you wish pull on the leather extension to the center console outward until you hear a loud plastic cracking. Stop. Take a deep breath and know that you have broken nothing important Remove heater duct careful not to break the blend air door cam (white) and the lever connected to it (black).
You can pull that black lever out if you are patient. Back to the final stage now that you have more room. It is the component with the 5 0r 6 large gauge wires on the connector. Push back the black plastic clamp while pulling/wiggling on the connector.
The final stage should come out, then disconnect the connector. Reinstall all. Make sure the heater duct is installed properly if you removed it.

BMW e46 won't start because of the alarm.

Hi, if the car stay for long time the computer box lost memory. Now is not reading the key. You need to program your key again by BMW manufacturer. Also on bmw the alarm is connected to computer box too.

Got a 2001 bmw 316 e46 just put a new expanshon tank on an coolant and its over heating the fan doesn't come on and it boils the coolant and steam comes from under bonnet ?? Any idea where to start (

If your losing coolant water pump may be leaking, not enough coolant will make it overheat. If not that, thermostat may be bad stuck open or shut. Hope this helps

Blower motor doesn't pump well even the fan switch on high

sounds like blower bearings are dried out and will eventually lock up the blower..sometimes you can spray wd40 in the blower bearings and it will work fine for a while.. also check vacuum controls to the baffle dors in the ductwork..may have some leaks there.. should hear a slight hissing if really bad..repost findings

Bmw 525d heater blower inoprative

With the blower turned on, try tapping the blower motor with something hard. If it restarts, then this is a failing motor. If it doesn't start, then check power to the motor. If it has power, then the motor has failed completely.

The air conditioner will turn on and off at will, no obvious pattern. By my understanding is that it is the blower motor resistor! Also if that is the case I don't know what it looks like. I do know...

Blower resistors are a common failure point on BMWs, particularly on models from the early 2000s. The first thing needed is the year and model of your car. Without that information, I can't tell you anything specific about fixing your car.
Typically, the failure pattern for a resistor is that you start to loose different fan speeds until it works only on high speed, and then stops altogether. I'm sure, however, that there are other failure patterns.
If you have a late (1996+) e36 3-series, there is a capacitor that fails in the control unit causing random behavior. http://www.frontiernet.net/~papi/Clim_Ctrl.html
You can look up the resistor on any on-line parts vendor to see what it looks like, but when you look under the dash, all you will be able to see is the plug, because the distinctive-looking heat sink is inside the air duct.
Google your model number (e36, e46, etc) and then the phrase "blower resistor replacement". People have posted a number of UTube videos and pictorials showing how to replace resistors in various models of BMW. Even if you cannot find your particular model, you can look at some others and get a good idea of what is required.

Heater blower not working

The blower is not the problem
The problem is a faulty final stage resitor located
on the passenger side under the dash.
Very common - easy to replace.

Heater blower not working

Hello picotto2006....Your beemer blower motor has a resistor that controls and regulates the voltage and speed. This has been known to to fail due to intensive heat. A lot of beemer owners have replaced the orginal factory resistor with an aftermarket upgrade.
It is a rectangular plastic or fiberboard unit and should be bolted to the base of the heater box. This resistor has most likely failed.
Replacement cost is about 75 dollars for the E46. Attached is a picture of the resistor.
Good luck and i hope this will fixya up and get the beemer heater back in operating condition.df23cb9.jpg
