SOURCE: 2001 kia Optima 2.5l V6 alternator replacement, how to..

Use good jackstands and remove from the bottom using basic metric shop tools. The tensioner for the belt will be accessed from the top. Here is kia's tech website: http://www.kiatechinfo.com/index.asp Register here to get free access to online manuals for your "MS" series 01 Optima. You can even print the diagrams. Good luck, it's about a 2.5 hour job, 1.5 hour at the dealership.

The alternator job calls for 1.6 hrs, it comes out the bottom not to hard to do,remove the belt then remove the bolts holding alternator then try to pull out if more room is need you may have to remove the axle then it should come right out, hope this helps.

Bottom! I'm sure some hot shot mechanics with very specialized tools could do it from the top, but the rest of us will need to access it from the bottom. Good luck, and use good jack stands!

Not sure. Check with a junk yard they are good at those questions. The swap is EASY. just remove the interior triangle shaped cover, and remove the nuts and wires to take off the old one. Some Optimas also have tweeters in that location, use caution if you have them, they are expensive to replace. good luck!
