Question about 1993 Toyota Corolla

1 Answer

I have a 1993 Toyota Corolla that just got a new distributor. After the distributor was installed by a shop, the car stutters and almost stalls out and then goes back to normal for a little while. Then the engine light will flicker and the car stutters again. The shop that did the distributor said it just needed a fuel additive...I've spent over $600 and my car still is not fixed. What's wrong with the car?

My crystal ball is a bit foggy and there is no history on your issues.
I would take it back and ask for my money back then take it to a Toyota Dealer.

make sure battery cables are secure on or into the battery and not loose. If cables are loose it will cause your alternater to fail therfore not fully keeping battery charged. If battery cables are not loose replace battery.

I have a 1993 corolla that just received a new distributor. After the distributor was installed ($460) the car stutters and the check engine light blinks. We took it back to the shop and the mechanic

Your saying neither shop had the older OBD1 Scan Tool
or software at their shops !!

No reason for that, still have to work on older vehicles

Guessing at what? May very well be guessing & wishing
they never took in the job

How did they determine you needed a new distributor?
That probably was a no testing & guess situation

Get it to another shop that has been in business for 30 years
with the same owner & ASE Certified people

I have a 1989 Toyota Corolla, 5 speed manual;

I would look at the fuel delivery system. Change the fuel filter if it hasn't been done lately. Also get the fuel pressure checked. I don't have the specs but it could be that your fuel pump is getting worn and occasionally has trouble pumping enough fuel to the carb. It's also possible that your carb may need to be overhauled. They do wear and get build up in the pasages over time. Also check to see if your warm air valve in the air cleaner is working. It is possible that your carb is icing up in the cold weather and it is more likely to happen at highway speed.
If you need to get the carb overhauled take it to a shop that specializes in this type of work. You will be glad you did when you get it back.
Hope this helps.

You may have a bad pick up coil in the distributor or a bad distributor. What also to look at is the throttle position sensor. That may have a dead spot it.

1993 toyota corrola stalls.

I thing that the main problem turned out to be a bad ignition coil. On '93 Corollas, you can remove the ignition coil without removing the distributor. (You only need to remove the distributor cap and rotor.) you mention that u already replace couple of parts but i suggest to get the original part from Toyota spare part
