Pontiac 3400 misfire problem one new coil pack new plugs and wires on still running bad have too press gas too start now bad fuel mileage unburnt fuel smoke when engine starts for a few seconds then stops...

some of the cylinder wont get spark, faulty spark plug, wire or coil. To check pull all spark plugs out, plug them to the wires and put on the engine top and then cranck the engine to see which spark plug not giving a spark

Checking symtoms for a blown head gasket

If the gaskets are blown and allowing combustion gases into the cooling system a fast easy test is to top off cooling system and put the cap on. Start car and tach it up to redline 2-3 times. Turn off engine and try to pinch upper rad hose if hose is rock hard you probably do have a blown gasket. If it is blown and allowing coolant into the cylinder remove the spark plugs and turn the engine over with the key. If coolant comes out of the spark plug holes you have a blown gasket. Or you can run a compression test or buy a block tester with the test fluid that turns green when combustion gasses are detected.

My car runs great, but when i turn it off and try to drive it again in a minutes it wont start .i have to let it set for a while before it will start again

crank position sensor, camshaft position sensor or an injector with too many ohms resistance. when you turn the key to the on position you should hear the fuel pump come on for a few seconds. if not suspect fuel pump relay or fuel pump

you will need to determine if it's a no spark issue or a no fuel issue.

When the car wont start spray some carb cleaner or starter fluid into the intake and try to start. if it does start and run for a few second then the problem is with the ignition side

check for spark by removing a spark plug lead from a spark plug and putting a good spark plug in the wire, use a jumper cable and clamp one end to the spark pug thread and the other to battery ground. Turn the engine over and you should see spark.

is the check engine light on? if so get the computer scanned, autozone will do it for free

Wont start.

If it will turn over check to see if its fuel or fire. To check for fuel, spray quick start for a few seconds into intake. If it starts and stops. its fuel. Change fuel filter and check fuel pump. If it does not start its fire, Could be distributor cap, rotor, coil, spark plug wires or spark plugs. If it does not turn over it could be battery or starter. Check battrey connections, ground strap from motor to body and ground wire from battery to motor and body.

Turns over hard, acting like it want to start, plugs have gas on them a little, but it still wont start , it's an 88 LeSabre Limited with the 3800

If the plugs themselves are wet the whole sparking process won't work; the plugs must be dry basically.
Here's what you should try: remove all of the spark plugs and let the whole thing sit open to dry/air out over night.
Or, the thing I've heard from crazy people... remove the plugs and flash the plugs and plug-holes over a few times with a propane torch(be sure to get the plug wires out of the way). Be prepared for fire coming from the plug holes, burn off all that gas from the plugs and from inside the holes.
At this point you shouldn't need to let things sit open since everything burned up... re-insert and tighten up your plugs, hook the wires back up & give it a go.
Another issue encountered, and although it didn't prevent the vehicle from starting, it did cause issues, was that we had a cracked plug. Either move the vehicle into a dark building, or wait for it to get dark outside, and open the hood up. While trying to start, see if you can identify dancing arc's or flashes coming from under the hood... to assist in making things more obvious people suggest spraying water from a misting sprayer over the plug wires(those can potentially fail causing electricity to arc from them as well). Any arc that happens outside of the cylinder is robbing your vehicle of spark/firing power.

Also, as a visual check for spark... remove one plug from a hole and hook its wire to it. Touch the threads of the plug to a bare metal part on the engine and have someone else try to start the car... you should be able to see it sparking. And don't worry, the open cylinder doesn't put out enough gas/fumes to cause an explosion in the few seconds it takes to perform the spark inspection.
If you notice that the plug isn't sparking, make sure that you're grounded to the vehicle and try again. If you cannot get spark at all, your problem is electrical and that will require a more technical approach: cap, rotor, coil, igniter, fuses - somewhere in there.
I hope that turns out well for you.

Hi i have a 90 mod rx7 turns over it has spark its got new plugs it has new battery and is getting fuel but still wont start what can you sujest could be rong with my car

Take a spark plug out, reconnect it to the spark plug wire and check for spark at the plug. Repeat as many spark plugs as you can. If you're sure it's getting fuel, you'll need to do a compression check, or make sure the tiiming is still correct. By the way what test did you do to determine fuel delivery is alright.

2001 Ford Focus stopped running while i was driving and wont start. Makes a churning sound but no power is going to engine. I changed the ignition coil, still wont turn on. Any suggestions?

Can you explain more so I can help. What do you mean still wont turn on, engines doesn't start or starter motor doesn't turn. Have u taken out a spark plug and connected it to the cable put the end of the spark plug to a ground and make someone turn on the engine for a few seconds you should see some blue sparks. Carefully use gloves. If no sparks, spark plug is bad next thing to check instead of putting the spark plug in the cable put Philips screwdirver put the screwdriver near a ground not touching about one inch make someone turn the engine for a couple of second you should see the spark jumping from the screwdriver to the ground, If there are no sparks ignition coil or spark plug cables are not good. But u say u changed ignition coil so maybe your cables are not good. There is a connector near the ignition coil disconnect it and turn ignition switch on measure the voltage you should have in between 12vdc + or - .5 vdc if no voltage present there is a blown fuse, Check for it
