1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme "check engine" light coming on.

I had the O2 sensor replaced and it still comes on periodically. Is there another O2 sensor on that make? What else could be the problem?

bank 2 sensor 1 is a heated oxygen sensor in the manifold or exhaust before the cat converter
it is not an o2 sensor which is oxygen sensor after the cat converter for bank 2
two completely different sensors
the fuel trim code appears because of the problem sensors
the fuel trim is cpu program in the computer in the ECM setting a optimum fuel /air ratio after a period of driving
if the sensors both HO2s and O2 sensors are faulty then the cpu cannot set the fuel trim

How to Replace the O2 Sensor in Mercury villager?

O2 sensor needs to be replaced when you get low gas mileage in car.
The procedure to replace is as follows: ----
1) There is primary and secondary O2 sensor connector.
2) Do the replacement of the O2 sensor only when the engine is completely cool.
3)You will see primary O2 sensor on the exhaust manifold. The secondary O2 sensor is located after the catalytic converter.
4)Put the car on jack stands on the rack, this will give you proper sensor location in the car.
5)Remove the O2 sensor with a socket wrench and O2 removal tool extension. Turn the O2 sensor counterclockwise to remove.
6) Most of the times the O2 sensor comes out very easily but if its bit hard to remove it then you can use "FREEZE spray" to make it gets loose.
7)The spray will make it come out easily.
8)When the O2 sensor is getting removed, some of the wiring's will also come out.
9)Before removing the O2 sensor, take the note of the wiring's and the position of wiring so while inserting new O2 sensor you don't get confused.
10) Now after you remove the old faulty O2 sensor out. Carefully insert new O2 sensor in same position.
11) And reverse/refit all the wires / parts which you removed while replacing the old O2 sensor.
This will help. Thanks.

How to replace a bank 1 sensor 2 oxygen sensor on a 1997 mercury mountaineer

Hi Tarquin, I'm glad to help!

O2 Sensors are not so easy to replace if they have been on the exhaust for a long period of time. This is because they are rusted to the exhaust. BUT, on the other hand if its not rusted it is easy to replace. First, unplug the connector, then place your O2 sensor socket on the sensor and turn it counter-clockwise to remove it. Replace it with the new one and plug it in, YOUR DONE. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Tarquin.

I just bought a 1997 volvo s90. It runs great, except the check engine light is on and I took it in and was told that I needed a new catalytic converter and two oxygen sensors. Where can I buy these parts...

If the cat is bad, it will have to be replaced-and aftermarket cats are much less expensive. Since you say the car runs well, however, I would question why they feel it needs to be replaced. A cat can get 'plugged' from constantly trying to remove unburned hydrocarbons from a poorly running engine, causing a bad problem to become worse. Yours is not the case-although they want you to replace the front O2 sensor, which will improve how the car runs, especially if it is the original O2 sensor.

I would replace the Sensor in front of the cat, clear codes, and go from there-does your cat get cherry red when the car has been driven for an extended period of time? If not, it should not be a issue. The O2 sensor behind the cat only monitors catalytic converter function, and will not affect how the engine runs, period. I

If you have doubts I think you might get another opinion, from a local non-dealership since you got bad advise from that dealership. I would think they would replace the old front sensor, clear codes, and see if any come back-if the car is running well, they will conclude the cat is not bad (it is not) and they might suggest replacing the rear sensor since it too can may not effectively be properly monitoring the cat efficency anymore. You do not need a dealer to install Os sensor(s), and a name brand sensor will work just as well as an OEM sensor, and cost much less in most cases.

Sounds like your O2 sensor is malfunctioning. When the check engine light comes on, the computer goes into a preset mode bypassing the O2 sensor and that's why it suddenly runs good. Have the O2 sensor checked. You can also have the trouble codes read and they should point you in the same direction.

Check engine light on after OXYGEN SENSOR FIXED, which was the reason the engine light was on at all. But now its been fixed and reset and the light comes on! What the problem???

Can't solve that here What codes do you still have? Who did the O2 R&R,and was it okey for awhile? You may not have an O2 issue, even though you get the codes. A Misfire will set a lot of unrelated codes on some vehicles

I hope you understand that codes, do not tell you what is wrong or what to replace. They can be sensors out of range over a period of time and the PCM sets a code, so you can check things out.
Even a mechanical issue, could appear as sensor failure
Was the correct sensor replaced?
