According to the book, 1 day. You'll have to schedule the event with your handy motor shop.

I'd like to do the repair myself on my own 1987, and according to the Haynes & Chilton's books, the repair requires removing the dash and evacuating the AC. I'm not willing to evacuate the AC, so for the last ten years I've been living without a heater. Lucky for me I'm in Florida!

Diagram for heater core replacement on 1986 elcamino

Best to get a repair manual. You will need to remove part or all of the dash, since the heater core is inside the car on the firewall. An Autoparts store would have a repair manual for your car. In The Meantime: 1. Disconnect the heater hoses, at the firewall in the engine compartment. 2. Connect the two hoses together using a piece of tubing and a couple of hose clamps. (This will bypass the heater core, until you can get it fixed.)

Blowing cold air when heater on, losing anti-freeze but no puddle under car on a 2003 ford expedition

Your heater core is leaking, needs to be replaced asap... see if there any leak around the passenger compartment area, that is where the heater core is usually located. Other then that, could be leaking coolant into the engine because head gasket is leaked, but and only if you see lot of whitish smoke coming out of your tailpipe, but in this case, looks like you have a leaking heater core.

Leaking heater core

did u replace the heater hoses as well. When u run your ac an idle up valve raises your rpms slightly whitch will pump more coolant. Other than that they should have nothing to do with one another.

1986 Ford Thunderbird. Turn signal does not

Have you checked the contacts to make sure they are touching the bulb base. I have a 1995 Ford Contour that did the same thing. I took a screwdriver and bent the contacts out very slightly and it has worked fine ever since.

Heater core leaking

Most Haynes manuals should tell you how to take the unit apart. I had to do the same thing myself, it's pretty intuitive. Putting all the heter controls back right was the trickiest part.

Need to replace heater core I need to replace my heater core and want to know the best way to do it

You will have to remove the entire dash assembly and then remove the air conditioning/heater case and this will enable you to have access replace the heater core, this is a really tough job did it 3 or 4 times while working at a Ford dealer, took 10 hours and I had allot of experience, unless you have allot of tech savvy I would pay someone to do it, I would, and I am a Professional mechanic.
