I have always been told that you should never pump the pedal on a fule injected car?

  • Tim Nichoson Jan 28, 2009

I have figured out that im not getting any gas at all. The fuel pump is the problem. I know on cars that i have worked on in the past there is like a trap door under the back seat or in the trunk to get to the top of the fuel tank. Does anyone know if this 99 taurus is the same way if so it will make this job alot eaiser???

Did U try pumping the gas pedal to get some fuel to the engine, because of the year sitting.

The gas has probably lost its volatility .or compression was lost due to run off of cylinders oil on rings.

My 99 durango will start up but u have to give it gas to stay running same when pulling down in gear

Change the gas filter. If car sat for 2 years without being started, the gas could be stale Put fuel system cleaner in gas tank. The car may need a double dose.

99 taurus sat for 2 mounths has gas wont start

Has gas where--- in the fuel tank?

Put a fuel pressure gauge on the
fuel rail & see if you have a working
fuel pump,system & pressure,somewhere
around 40# with key on/eng off

I assume the engine turns with the starter

Is the battery any good, start there, can read 12.5 volts
& still be bad

Will it try & start if you spray the throttle body with starting
fluid or carb cleaner

If you have spark plug wires, put an old plug into one wire
& ground it on motor to check for spark

You can have spark but too weak to run motor

Make sure all fuses are in place & good

I have a 1999 Ford Taurus SE V6 and it has 73,000 miles. It sat for 3 years before i purchesed it last July i had the fuel pump and filters changed as well as the fuel tank and lines flushed. About 6 to 7...

Try adding a couple of bottles of fuel injector cleaner to the gas tank...I prefer the STP super concentrated black bottle...this is the easiest first approach from your description...Hope this helps.

Just turns off on it's own, Wait 60 sec. restart press pedel it dies.

This engine is electronically controlled so the first thing that must be done here is to have the systems control computer tested for fault codes and then do the proper diagnostics based on those codes.

1996 5 speed honda accord. sat for a year. put in new battery. everything lights up, but car wont start. never had previous problem.

Are you saying the car turns over (cranks) but it does not start? Or, the car is Not turning over?
If it is cranking over but not starting, and it ran fine before sitting for the year, it may be water/moisture in the gas. Try some dry gas, and/or Carb-fuel injection cleaner in your gas tank.

Car trys but wont start

Might be bad gas or it sounds like your fuel pump is out. It doesn't cost very much but I think it is located in the tank itself. Drain the tank and discard the old gas. take down the tank and replace the pump. This should fix your problem.

Car won't start without adding gas to air intake then won't idle

Check the fuel filter, you may have clogged it when you filled the tank.
