if that is true, it can be caused by:
  1. spark plug bad. (no spark causes, wet tips)

  3. PCM stuck in failsafe (limphome) mode, scan it yet?
  4. got DTC errors??? scan it?
  5. misfiring when? hot , cold engine or both.?
  6. only idling , cruising up hills? or all time?
  7. leaking injectors?
  8. clogged injectors.?
  9. ECT stuck cold all the time (scan it is it 180F or more?)

How do I know the numbers for the spark plugs to a 2000 nissan exterra 6 cylinder suv?

the misfire could also be the coil that is what send's the spark to the distributor, if it is weak it will cause a random mis fire code for any cylinder, the plug wire's on my 2000 xterra are numbered it will be the second plug on the driver's side of the engine, the cam sensor will also give a mis fire code if it is malfunctioning, I have a 2000 xterra that is a night mare when it come's to code's and repair's it is not alway's the first thing you think with these vehicle's, try to change all the plug's and dis connect the battery for 20 minutes then hook it back up and run down to your local autozone or pep boy's and have them hook up an OBD to see if it is fixed or if another code appear's

2000ford mustang gt jerks alot while driving what does this mean?

its caused by a cylinder mis-fire.it could be as simple as a dirty spark plug or as complex as wiring issues. check your spark plugs, an injectors. next check the coil packs. it could aslo be moisture in the fuel.

What does diagnostic code p0301 mean

Cylinder number 1 Mis-fire. It may be caused by simply replacing the number one cylinder spark plug (replace them all while your at it). If the spark plug is not the cause, diagnosis will be required on the engine management components, not any easy task.

My 2000 grand am has multiple miss fires

P0300 Diagnostic Code - Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

Basically this means that the the car's computer has detected that not all of the engine's cylinders are firing properly.

A P0300 diagnostic code indicates a random or multiple misfire. If the last digit is a number other than zero, it corresponds to the cylinder number that is misfiring. A P0302 code, for example, would tell you cylinder number two is misfiring. Unfortunately, a P0300 doesn't tell you specifically which cylinder(s) is/are mis-firing, nor why.

Symptoms may include:
* the engine may be harder to start
* the engine may stumble / stumble, and/or hesitate
* other symptoms may also be present

Causes: A code P0300 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
* Faulty spark plugs or wires
* Faulty coil (pack)
* Faulty oxygen sensor(s)
* Faulty fuel injector(s)
* Burned exhaust valve
* Faulty catalytic converter(s)
* Stuck/blocked EGR valve / passages
* Faulty camshaft position sensor
* Defective computer

Possible Solutions:
- If there are no symptoms, the simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
- If there are symptoms such as the engine is stumbling or hesitating, check all wiring and connectors that lead to the cylinders (i.e. spark plugs). Depending on how long the ignition components have been in the car, it may be a good idea to replace them as part of your regular maintenance schedule. I would suggest spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor (if applicable). Otherwise, check the coils (a.k.a. coil packs). In some cases, the catalytic converter has gone bad. If you smell rotten eggs in the exhaust, your cat converter needs to be replaced. I've also heard in other cases the problems were faulty fuel injectors.

Random misfires that jump around from one cylinder to another (read: P030x codes) also will set a P0300 code. The underlying cause is often a lean fuel condition, which may be due to a vacuum leak in the intake manifold or unmetered air getting past the airflow sensor, or an EGR valve that is stuck open.

Hope helps, and keep us updated.

One of the engine cylinders is mis firing (did a code check). the check engine light initially flashes when first driving, then remains on -does not flash any longer) would that damage the catalytic...

it is very important to keep the engine tuned up, and yes an engine miss fire could damage the catalytic converter. the 1990 does not have a code for a miss fire it is probley just a bad spark plug or spark plug wire, and remember when it comes to spark plug wires you get what you pay for.....have fun

OBD11 Code with reading P0301

P0301 is the data trouble code for (cylinder 1 mis-fire detected), you can try replacing the #1 spark plug and ignition wire, but you might want to consider tuning up the vehicle especially if it has been a long time since it was last tuned up.

ck if you have spark at the coil for that cylinder. check the plug wire closely. if it has spark at the coil, then replace all the spark plug wires.
