How do I loosen the positive terminal from the battery post on a 2010 Ford Fusion? I do not understand the mechanism to loosen/tighten the terminal to the post.

Not knowing which model & engine you have, I'll assume it is similar to the 2010 Focus I have access to.
Take a 10mm socket and remove the top nut, loosening the terminal. ALWAYS remove the negative terminal first to avoid damaging sensitive and expensive electrical components.

2007 equinox battery keeps going dead

you will need to check for a draw on the system, this is dome with a ampmeter installed between the negative battery cable and the negatibe terminal on the battery. the draw on the system SHOULD NOT be more than 50 milliamps. if the draw is more than 50 milliamps, you will need to remove fuses one at a time to isolate what circuit is running the battery down
