Hold the engine up with a support cradle, and pull the trans out from the bottom. This is how we do it here. Fast and easy. Pulling the engine is a waste of time.

What is the step by step process to replace cv joint transaxle on a 1998 ford Taurus SE

It's a job...but it may be best to get a professional to do this for the simple reason : once your remove the tie-rod ends, unless you have the nut marked down to the millimeter, your allignment will be off, which could at best wear your tyres down unnaturally, or at worse, result in the car being very unstable, especially around corners !

It needs a total break repair is 1000 too much?

I would say 1000 is almost what the Tercel is worth, depending on it's mileage. Also, I really don't see why it should cost so much for a brake job on that older vehicle. Get another estimate for that brake job somewhere else.

How do i replace the seals because its leaking for the rackandpinion on my 96' toyota tercel

Hello mmdwell.
You may be able to replace the seals, but it is a difficult job and you will likely find the surface the seal rides on will also be scratched, rusted and scored.
People in the auto repair trade usually go for a rebuilt unit available at most auto parts supply.
They are not that expensive and make the job much easier.
Get one that already has the inner tie rods mounted on it as your Tercel is a few years old and will likely need them anyway.
You will need an alignment after the replacement. A tape measure toe set usually results in worn tires.
Thank you for using FixYa.

Which is the best way remove the motor from a 98 avlon from the bottom or the top . have new one to put in

Hello. Welcome to FixYa. Please allow me to assist you.

What we do in my Toyota service department is to raise the vehicle, remove the transaxle from under the car, then lower the car, and pull the engine out form the top. This is the fastest and easiest way. However, you need to support the engine with a device that straddles the inner fenders, and will hold up the engine while the transmission is being removed. You can pull the entire engine/transaxle out thru the top, but is is much more difficult. You should not try to take the engine out thru the bottom. That is a very frustrating and time consuming job.

Thanks for choosing FIxYa today. Hopefully, my input will be truly useful, and, if so, a 4-thumbs rating for my help would be very nice of you.

They tend to get really stuck, especially if they haven't been changed in a while. A few raps with a hammer on all sides will usually get the job done. Best of luck.
