SOURCE: dtc codes p0155 & p0051

I had the same problem and found out I was sold the wrong sensor, my 4.0 has four, they are all different, when you install a new sensor, you must make sure you clear the trouble code before you start the engine, ignition on engine off, that should do it, it worked for me, also if you have your own scanner and can erase the codes yourself, the wrong 02 sensor will turn engine light on with cold start, then after I erased the code it would stay off all day until the next cold start, thats when I found out my new 02 sensor was for bank 1 sensor 2, and not bank 2 sensor 1, hope this helps

I am not familar with the Neon transmission. All the codes you retrieved are related to a sensor on/in the transmission. P0870 Trans Fluid Press Sensor/Switch C Circuit. If that is defective, then the other codes are related to it, P0731 & 32 1st and 2nd gear. P0700 Trans Control Sys Malfunction. Hope this helps.

did you try to remove the code # with a diagnostic code retrieveing tool, this will remove the light from being on in the system, providing the computer is functioning properly, if you do not have the tool to do this with, then disconnect your positive battery cable, for about 1 minute, then reconnect it back up, and see if light is out. you will have to reset your vehicles clock, and possibly some radio functions.

Begin the system diagnosis with the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information. The Vehicle System Check will provide the following information:
The identification of the control modules which commands the system

The ability of the control modules to communicate through the serial data circuit

The identification of any stored diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and their status

The use of Vehicle System Check will identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.

MAF, Mass air flow sensor is out of performance range. Clean it with some electrical spray cleaner first. DO NOT use a brush on it., just spray it down both sides if you can. The MAF is between the air filter and throttle body. If your air filter is dirty, replace it also.

How do replace a speed sensor on an 1996 infinty I-30 ?

ok cars have 2 to 5 speed sensors.

so saying that means nothing.

but 734 does, first post ever with speed and code in one.

usually its not.

1996 what , kia? or Infiniti? perplexed i am.

that is tranny, code, so why condemn the sensor

i do take it off and clean the black magnetic crap on the end every time. do so , often. and win.

Trouble Code Conditions:

NOTE: If DTC U1000 is displayed with this DTC, first perform the trouble diagnosis for DTC U1000. Diagnostic trouble code P0734 is detected when A/T cannot be shifted to the 4th gear position even if electrical circuit is good.

Possible Causes:

  • Shift solenoid valve A (On stick.)

  • Shift solenoid valve B (On stick.)

  • Shift solenoid valve C (On stick.)

  • Pressure control solenoid valve A (On stick.)

  • Forward and direct clutch assembly

  • U/D clutch

  • U/D brake

  • 2nd coast brake

  • One-way clutch No.1

  • Hydraulic control circuit

(so the FSM then has you conduct many tests to find true cause.)_

A/T are very very complex animals.

did you connect a scan tool that can SEE ALL factory DTC codes>

if not , you are blind..

cheap readers dont do that. they blind you.

the TCM can tell that 4th is not attained

by seeing the VSS speed too slow, that means the tranny is slipping

or is not in 4th gear, or the VSS fibbing its buns off (clean it , reset code, and drive)

Engine identification numbers

Engine identification numbers ????????? These are OBD 2 DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes. The onboard computer see a problem with EVAP emission system , O2 sensor , DTC C1275 -The PCM diagnoses a condition preventing the engine control portion of the traction control function and sends a serial data message to the EBCM indicating that torque reduction is not allowed. The PCM will typically set a DTC and the EBCM will set this DTC. You think a CV axle - your best bet ,take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop .

Speed sensor vehicle

engine runs good.
my guess?
fails smog tests or you note the monitors never finished.
the finally saw the CEL glowing then plugged in a scan tool
and got DTC P0xxx , and then forgot the number. dang.
Cars have up to 5 speed sender. all are really tachometers !
Each have a proper name, but who cares.
the engine has 2, called CMP and CKP, one for crank, 1 for Cam.
the transmisson, (yours never stated) has 1,2,3, or more.
all called VSS1, 2,2??
back in 1997 the TCm shifts the transmission elecronically
in that it uses the ENGINE RPM as sensor 1,
and tail shaft VSS1 as tranny output RPM
and a backup VSS2 in the speedo on many cars.
so you can now, how not posting the DTC,makes all this impossible.

not stated,
what engine in car, car can have 3 or more options new.?
which transmission, M/T or A/T and if A/T how many speeds.?

get the DTC, look it up in the FSM or to find out
which VSS is failing, of the many.

hint 2, did you know the TCM may have its own scan codes, in 1997
and that if the tranny (A/T) VSS 1 fails it can fall back to the
cluster speedo VSS? many cars can. and is key to diagnosis.
one thing cool about,. M/T tranny, no scan codes, no smog fails for bad m/T ever.
tell me more about what is in your car and we can look it
up at and see the truth.

Buy transmission range sensor

Suzuki sells it. (so do all major transmission, parts houses)
to use the latter the words on the trans plate need to be known (read)
if you need better help, you'd have to say EXACTLY
where said sensor is located.
my guess is the scan tool tool you its bad and you believe that?
the scan codes, DTC can be right , but let me give one example of not right. (very common)

the transmission , slips. (bad tranny)
and the input sensor reads right , but the tail sensor reads too slow. well gee, that is because the transmission is slipping.
find a pro tranny guy and get him to check that the transmission is ok, first.
Suzuki does sell a FSM for this car, if open that book , under transmission all this is here, and more, includiing how
to diagnose tranny on car and how to understand tranny DTC errors.
state the symptoms for better help, guessing will be costly.

My service engine light is on got it checked it has a p0706 code which is the Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Range/Performance?where do i find the part?

DTC P0708 - Transmission Range Sensor Circuit High Input

Check your transmission range sensor.
There is a connector located where the cable attaches to the tranny on the back (firewall side). Be sure its connected and seated properly.

From what I understand the "range sensor" is basically the Input Turbine Speed Sensor. Be sure the connector for this is also clean. This code is also set by the Nuetral Safety switch. Check the switch with a multi meter to be sure its working properly.

Also, check your Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor. This sensor is used by the PCM to help control tranny operations.

Also, can check this additional information for
1998 Saturn SL1...

DTC P0706
The PCM determines which gear is selected by a combination of opens and grounds in circuits 771, 772, and 773 at the transaxle park/neutral
position switch. Each combination indicates a specific selection on the
manual shift quadrant, P, R, N, D, 2, or 3. Circuit 776 is either open
or grounded to produce an even number of grounded circuits, 771, 772,
773, and 776. Invalid data indicates that the sum of the grounded
circuits 771, 772, 773, and 776, in 1 of the manual shift quadrants is
equal to an odd number.

Conditions for Setting the DTC
DTC P0706 is set when the PCM has detected an invalid bit pattern for
more than 3.5 seconds, twice per ignition cycle.

The difference between DTC P0706 and DTC P0705 is that a possible bit pattern error due to misadjustment could set a DTC P0706.

Test Description
1. This step verifies the conditions for DTC P0706 still exist.
2. If the shift cable or switch is misadjusted, a DTC P0706 may set
while in certain gear shift positions.
3. DTC P0706 may set due to 1 or more circuits being shorted to
ground. By disconnecting the switch, the PCM should read all circuits as high and the scan tool should display OPEN.
4. This step will isolate an open circuit. As each individual circuit
is grounded, the PCM/TCM should see the low signal and the tool should display INVALID.
5. The PCM/TCM supplies a 12 volt signal to each transaxle park/neutral position switch circuit. This step tests for that voltage.
6. DTC P0706 may have been set due to 1 of the circuits being shorted
to voltage. This step verifies if a short to voltage exists.

Repair Verification
Monitor DTC menu Code Status for Pass Since Code Clear and Pass This Ignition Cycle. When both have passed, the repair is verified.

Criteria for pass:
* No active DTC set.
* Two valid selector positions are decoded. You must move the
shifter to obtain a pass.

Diagnostic Aids
When the PCM detects a fault in the circuit, an open, ground, or short,
the PCM will open the circuit internally to protect the circuit.

If no circuit problems can be detected, check the shift cable and switch

Refer to the chart from DTC P0705.

This DTC will cause the transaxle to start out in 2nd gear.

Hope helps (remember rated this).

Where is the catalyst converter located

In the exhaust line...

NOTE:For component location, see COMPONENT LOCATIONS . For connector identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For circuit identification and wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article. After each repair procedure has been completed, reconnect all components. Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-5 under VERIFICATION TESTS to ensure system is functioning properly.

Monitored & Set Conditions
Catalytic converter efficiency is monitored after engine warms up to 158°F (70°C), throttle has been open for 180 seconds at vehicle speed more than 18 MPH, with engine speed at 1200-1700 RPM and MAP vacuum 15-21 in. Hg. DTC will set in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) memory when PCM senses catalyst efficiency deteriorated to a predetermined value. Possible causes for DTC to set are: intermittent condition, exhaust leak, engine mechanical problem, defective catalytic converter or upstream Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) is older than downstream HO2S.
NOTE:1/1 HO2S may also be referred to as an upstream oxygen sensor. On 2.4L, 1/1 HO2S is located on exhaust manifold flange. On 3.3L and 3.8L, 1/1 HO2S is located on right exhaust manifold flange (manifold closest to firewall).

NOTE:If any O2 sensor DTCs are set along with P0420, diagnose those DTCs before continuing with this test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .

Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If Good Trip counter is displayed for DTC P0420 and displayed count is "0", go to next step. If Good Trip counter is not displayed for DTC P0420 or displayed count is not "0", go to step 7 .
Inspect catalytic converter for damage, discoloration caused by overheating and for converter coming apart internally. Replace catalytic converter as necessary. If catalytic converter is okay, go to next step.
Start engine and allow it to idle. Check for exhaust leaks between engine and 1/1 HO2S. Repair exhaust system as necessary. If exhaust system is okay, go to next step.
Check exhaust for excessive smoke caused by coolant entering combustion chambers or high oil consumption. If excessive smoke caused by coolant entering combustion chambers or high oil consumption does not exist, go to next step. If excessive smoke caused by coolant entering combustion chambers or high oil consumption exists, repair engine as necessary and replace catalytic converter.
NOTE:A new downstream HO2S used along with an aging upstream HO2S may cause DTC P0420 to set.

If downstream HO2S has been replaced without replacing upstream HO2S, replace upstream HO2S. If downstream HO2S has not been replaced recently or downstream HO2S has been replaced along with upstream HO2S, go to next step.
At this time, catalytic converter is assumed to be defective. Replace catalytic converter.
NOTE:A new downstream HO2S used along with an aging upstream HO2S may cause DTC P0420 to set. Review vehicle repair history and repair as necessary.

Conditions for DTC to set do not exist or fault is an intermittent problem. Start engine and allow it to idle. Ensure engine is at normal operating temperature. Using scan tool, monitor parameters related to DTC while wiggling connectors and wiring harness. If value changes while wiggling connectors and wiring harness, repair connectors and wiring harness where wiggling caused value to change. If value does not change, review Freeze Frame data using scan tool. Attempt to duplicate condition that caused DTC to set. Check for any related technical service bulletins that may apply. Visually inspect related connectors and wiring harness. Repair connectors and wiring harness as necessary. If no problems are indicated, test is complete.

Good luck.
