I have a 1999 dodge ceruis. I quit running going down the highway at 70 mph. It was very low of oil. Do the have a ciser shut down system

You are fortunate that the engine still cranks. If it overheated when it shut down it is possible that some of the electrical components may have been burned out.

And if you did permanent damage it is possible that now the engine is not cranking fast enough to start.

Good luck.

My car quit while highway driving; now it wont restart. could this be an alternater problem?

The alternator only keeps the battery charged. So if the battery is dead, then yes the alternator could be at fault.
If the engine cranks but does not start, then the alternator is not involved.
And the anti-theft system would not kill the engine, only prevent it from starting.

Motor will turn over but it wont start and stay running?

Hmm is the security light on??? If it is.. I think I found the issue... I had a buick regal that would turn over but not start... it had to deal with the security in the car.. I checked and your car make and model are on the list.. this could be it.. I found a place that makes a part you can put in yourself. read over the site
hope it helps

My daughter was driving her 08 Eclipse, it just stopped running on the highway. It wouldn't start back. The starter wont engage now. Starter motor just turns. She said it made a funny noise before it quit...

start looking at the starter, verify its either working or not and go from there. is the engine turning over? is the cam turning? if not then the timing belt is broken and possible engine damage.

97 GMC diesel just quit while driving on highway

First thing on a diesel problem such as yours, would be FUEL FILTER. On GM diesels a clogged filter affects a diesel even more than on a gas engine. NOW if the filter doesn't cure your problems, I'm afraid tio say the injection pump could be at fault, and thats another story. Hope this helps

2001 PT Cruiser quit running driving down highway

Most likely a cam sensor or a crank sensor. The timing belt didn't break did it? They also have an issue with the timing belt tensioner going bad and jumping a tooth.

1990 Volvo 740 Turbos wagon

Maybe bad Power Stage/Inquiry:driving down the highway at @ 60mph with 1/4 tank of gas in 100 degree temp inwell kept 84 760 Turbo; car just dies, engine turns over but will notstart] [Response:] Well, when my '84 760 Turbo died for no apparentreason as you describe, it was in the freezing dark, going over Donner Pass.Everything on the car worked except no spark and the engine wouldn't run. It turned out to be the ignition module, which is mounted on the inner driver'sside fender well, above the battery, close to where someone else mentioned theballast resistor was located. It's easy to get to and replace. Ifthat turns out to be the culprit, shop around before buying the new part. Volvo dealers charge several hundred $$$ for this thing, but I found one froman independent parts distributor for about $90 - the identical part madeby BOSCH with the same part number on it.

Shuddering/jerking on highway, pull over, wont start for 30 mins

Last time I had that happen in a car everything blew. I found out the root of the problem was my timing chain, but I can tell you, you don't want to wait to get that checked out in any case or you will end up with a lot more problems.
