Question about 1996 BMW 328i
I am buying this car .it has bin sitting for three years under a corport in ca, I don't think there is any gas left in it ? I check all the fluids and they are fine .the car was to be started once or twice a mounth by his mom while my friend went to serve in iraq but the battery died but acorrding to my friend the car ran great before he left. P.S my freind made it back safely.
I would change the oil, disconnect the coil or fuel pump and crank the engine for several minutes to let the oil pump work.
Put a few gallons of fresh gas in the tank, and see what happens.
You may have to run that gas out and then replace the fuel filter.
If it starts ok, just let it idle for several minutes before you raise RPM. Listen for noises and see if the cooling system works.
There is a chance you may have to change the trans fluid and filter after you try to drive it.
And after driving a few miles, be sure and check the brakes and all of the engine hoses for leaks.

SOURCE: Battery on BMW 740i keeps dieing
you need to disconnect one side of the battery, put one lead from an ampmeter on the battery post you have disconnected and the other ampmeter lead on the cable you took off the battery. with nothing turned on on the car , all doors closed the reading on the ampmeter should be no higher than 0.17 amp, if it reads a lot hgher go to the fusebox and remove one by one all the permanent supply fuses looking at the reading every time until you find the circuit that is causing the high reading, this will be the drain. alot of the time it can be central locking system playing up, boot light, glove box light not switching off, stereo wired wrong. hope this helps.

The battery could still be bad and if you don't have a totally good battery in the car it won't run right. Take to one of the parts stores and they can check it for you for free. Probably as simple as a battery.

micro switch may have failed. have a very close look in the door latch fixed to the car...there should be a very small square pressable switch.. open the door and press your finger inside the latch against the little button, the window should drop and raise. If you dont have one there its on the inside of the door lock mechanism.

Come on give us more information. Think if you were trying to fix your own problem and you had to explain the problem to someone else with exactly no knowledge of what's going on.
1st off....a key with bad electronics and reader will open the door and that's it.
So that being said does the key turn the engine? If so the key, the program and ecu are ok. Say the engine cranks but doesn't start. Fuel pump. unscrew the access plug on the fuel rail and see if any fuel squirts out. NO......don't ever do this when it's hot..........not that yours is because it doesn't run but I had to say that. The millisecond you turn your key over to get it to try to start...the fuel pump comes on and pressurizes the entire fuel system.
Got fuel pressure, the engine turns but still no start= ignition spark plug engine computer problems.
