Question about 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The temp guage

Mr Mark, thanks for your help. Does it sound like BS that the shop couldn't just change out one guage? They said something about all the gauges on this mode come out of one spot in the back of the panel and you can't just replace the one guage. thanks again for your help.

They are right on the gauge cluster, but is it the gauge, or is it the temperature sending unit, which is mounted on the engine block?

Two different components entirely. BTW - I have a '03 Jeep Cherokee, so I've looked at a lot of this before.

You might also go to the www.wjjeeps.com website and see what you can find there.

your temp mark will also depends on your thermostat range anywhere between say 90 and say 180 if your temp goes in the red then you should be concern

Put in oil guage and volt guage and my fuel guage and temp guage stop working.

it sounds like something is not wired up right, i would re check the wiring according to the directions you recieved when you purchased your gages, to make sure you have it hooked up correctly. hope that this has helped you.

I just had a new radiator and thermostat put on my 1996 Nissan Altima. The temps here in SoCal are in 90's. My temp gauge keeps going up past the 1/2 mark. What is happening? I can't afford to break down...

If the shop installed a different thermostat (there are different actuation temperatures), the normal position of your gage will change accordingly. As long as it's still in the normal range and stays at a new "normal" level, I'd say you're OK. If it is getting too close to the red, ask them to reinstall a lower temp thermostat.

Temperature guage up

temp guages are just a guide, they vary considrably, and as long as the car runs fine,no warning lights/lack of power all is fine....(depends what you are used to,mine runs at 110 with a guage from 80 to 120.)

temp should stay about half while driving sounds like you have a bad thermostat if guage is half way at idle do you have heat feel both heater hoses should be about same temp if one is cooler not flow coolant
