SOURCE: Unsteady idle, drops too low when coming off the gas.

Idle on previas is set with the air bypass screw, not the cable. Holding the actual throttle open will cause all kinds of other problems.. one of which is the transmission thinks you are still on the throttle, so its still pulling. tps needs to go to 0 for it to disengage. Try releasing the throttle cable, open up the air bypass screw which is recessed 1/2 inch diameter flathead right on the side of the throttlebody. another thing to check is the a/c idle up solenoid sometimes will fail, and cause the described problem.
Ithere is an idle air control valve, which carbons up and may not react to the drop in idle speed fast enough. A can of carb cleaner taken to the valve (once removed) should help out.

SOURCE: started car running on petrol for 5 minutes with

could be number of problems but often this is caused by valve on the inlet manifold which is electricaly operated and then it allows the gas in but it is also vacumn sensitive so a perished rubber pipe could cause it not to sense the vacumn .best advice without seeing it is to visit a mechanic that is conversant with LPG conversion

1997 mazda e2000 van which is blowing black smoke

if it takes 5-10 mins of running before black smoke disappear i think you could have broken rings causing engine oil into the combustion chamber. you could observe white smoke if you have just changed oil.
solution would be to replace piston rings. it would save u a lot if u could diy.
