Is it full of coolant? have you had any leaks and added some kind of stop leak to the radiator? Are the heater hoses hot to and from the heater core connections all the way up to the firewall?
if the hoses are not hot then it is a circulation problem.
If they are hot then it is inside the cab as a blend door problem some use electric controls some use vacuum I am not familiar with the patriot system.
It could be that you have a vacuum leak and it is not opening the blend door until you rev the engine to build a vacuum. it is hard to diagnose because there are many things that could cause it.

Why is there no heat when idling

I can think of several possibilities:
1. Bad thermostat, keeping coolant temp too low for heat.
2. Heater fan not working.
3. Water pump not pumping enough coolant to provide heat when idling.

make sure antifreeze is at proper level. mine was low, and heater would not work at idle. filled her up, and walaaaa, blows hot at idle. something about needing full level to circulate through heat system. made sense to me and it worked. good luck.

Loosing anti freeze engine over heating

replace the viscous fan hub or check the electric fan operation as you do not have a forced air flow at idle. When the engine is working hard at low revs (pulling up hill) there is insufficient road air flow and at idle at lights there is no road air flow

The engine sputters and dies when it heats up. Is this Vapor lock? On cold start it works great and idles just fine but as it heats, the engine starts choking and soon dies out. If this is vapor lock, how...

sounds like the reason it starts and idles fine at start up is your choke is functioning... as your vehicle warms up.. the choke starts to kick off... Inspect your throttle body and idle control motor.

Idling at 4k and running hot, no heat with heater on? Please help!

The high idle sounds like the computer not telling it to idle down.....2nd,check the thermostate. 3rd if still no heat the heater core could be plugged with sluge....take the hoses off and put the water hose to it..it should push out the crude...you may have to do this more than once. It worked for me.

2002 duramax will heat up underload but not at idle any ideas why

No diesel I have ever owned will heat up to operating temp while idling. I have had semi's and dump truck and a Dodge with a Cummings turbo diesel. If you don't idle a diesel up to around 1200 rpm while sitting the combustion chamber temperature will drop because the diesel does not ignite fully at low rpm. You may also notice after an extended period of idling 1/2 hour or more that when you pull away the exhaust will be whitish blue because of the unburnt diesel fuel sitting on top of the rings. Also extended low idle will wash down the cylinder walls with unburnt diesel and remove the oil from lubricating the cylinders and rings. Hope this helps you understand why your diesel won't heat up while idling. Mike
