Usually one of the wires on top of the fuel tank has rusted off. Mine i had to drop the tank and clean contacts and wires up and re connect.

you need a new fuel sending unit. it is in the gas tank. you have to remove the tank and fuel pump assy. not an easy job. if you do it yourself $300 with new pump and sending unit. a dealer will be $1200, we just did our 2001 suburban

I have a 2005 Yukon 125K miles - fuel guage

what's happening, is the level sensor in the fuel tank is getting worn out, and it thinks it's out of fuel when you actually still 1/2 to 1/4 of a tank left. The only way to rectify this is to put a new fuel pump in, as it is only available as an entire unit. If you can live with it, it'll probably last quite some time, but if not, you'll have to look at a pump assembly. Hope you get it situated soon! Feel free to reply back if you have other questions
