SOURCE: leak under car (front driver's side)

What is the colour of the oil? Power steering oil will be red in colour or match it with the oil from powersteering oil reservoir. Its easy to locate powersteering pump. as it is driven by drive belts. So look around it and check for leaks. If no leaks, follow the hoses as far as you can and see if you can find leaks. You can also get underneath the car with a light and try to trace the leak.

SOURCE: cant locate power steering leak

I have the same problem. The high pressure line coming off the bottom of the power steering pump was leaking where the steal line goes into the rubber line. The fluid was running down the hose between the plastic cover on the hose and coming out on the bottom passenger side. This hose is a huge pain to change have to lower the sub frame to get it off the rack. And the hose is expensive.

Good Luck hope this helps

Leaking power steering fluid from both sides of front

You need to check all power steering hoses, hose connections and power steering pump for leaks. It's probably coming from one of these areas.

It is just the broken seal which is causing the fluid to leak, replace the seal to avoid fluid leakage.

Steering hard to turn to the left like power steering is out but turns ok to the right. Checked power steering fluid. It is OK

bad steering problems,,your steering rack most likely, but, have you recently been stuck in ditch? when wheels are straight, look at front of car when parked. do wheels look funny? one going one way, and the other going the other? may be alignment. is it leaking any fluid on either side of the front of the car? drivers side? passenger side? if it's not out of alignment,,,wheels out of alignment,,the steering rack is the problem. it may be faulty. if not leaking fluid,it may still be bad. first i would make a visual test look under the vehicle while someone turned the steering wheel to right and left while car is in park, emergency brake on!! look at the steering arms while they turn the steering wheel from right to left. no fluid leaks? any resistance in turning the wheel? any leaks,if so,go to leak and repair with steering line replacement.no leaks? suspect a bad steering rack. hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com i love to volunteer

Power steering and brakes dont work are they connected somehow and how would i fix this problem

Hello cindygariepy: My name is Roger and I will help you. Yes they are connected. The truck uses a brake system called Hydra-Boost. There is no vacuum booster like the cars use. Hydro-boost brakes use the power steering system as a source of power assist for the brakes. You need to check to make sure the fan belt is still on the engine. Should the belt brake you will loose power steering and brakes. Next check to make sure the power steering has fluid. If you have a leak in the power steering system and the system is extremely low you will loose steering and brakes. Generally when the system is low you hear a noisy growl when turning the steering wheel. These are the usual problems that occur when you loose both the power steering and brakes at the same time. There is one other part that could cause the condition . That would be a hydro-boost failure. If it fails there would be a lot of fluid leaking at the driver side of the vehicle in front of the driver seat outside on the ground. Power steering fluid is a clear oil. Should you need further help please just ask. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

I know I have power steering fluid leak in my 1995 GMC Sierra but not for the life of me can I find where I put the fluid in at or where to check it I do not have owners manual.

on most motors the power steering pump is located attached to a pulley along the serpentine or fan belts. the resevoir is part of the pump housing..do not overfill. In most US vehicles the pump is bolted to brackets at lower right side on front of motor (looking from front of vehicle)

Clear fluid leaking from the front right side of a 2000 vw beetl

Could be brake fluid, so look at the brake fluid resevoir.
Could also be water from the evaporator, from the air conditioner.
Is it oily to the touch?

I have a power stearing leak I think its comming from driver side

The front pump seal on the power steering pump - located behind the power steering pump pully tends to leak on these. To fix it you are better off replacing the entire pump assembly because the drive shaft tends to wear crooked and messes up the seal. Also, these are known for oil cooler lines leaking which is directly below power steering pump which can be mistaken for power steering pump leak.
