SOURCE: P0440 Evaporative Emission Control

You need a charcoal canister and vent control valve.

You also need the EGR solenoid valve (I think it the brown one).

Valve is located in the valley of the V, towards the transmission side of engine.

Do these 1st and reset light. You may have other issues but you have to start here.

SOURCE: code p0455 evap emission (large)

have the gas cap tested or just replace it, then disconnect the battery for 5 minutes to reset the code, then drive it for a few miles and see if problem comes back, if it does a trip to the dealer is in order, as this may be covered by your emission warranty which is good for 70,000 miles.

How to fix problem for code # po 441 for 1996 nissan maxima

Hi there:
This indicates that a part of the EVAP control system is no longer functioning correctly. The EVAP system consists of many parts, including (but not limited to) the gas cap, fuel lines, carbon canister, purge valve, and other hoses. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

I suggest replacing the gas cap with preferably one from the Nissan dealer, or OEM equivalent, then clear these codes by disconnecting the negative battery cable for about a minute then drive it normally; if the codes come back, this may take a couple of days, you most likely have to have the system tested for leaks.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

No, the car is giving codes P0456 and P0440. Can you tell me what they are?

P0440 Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction P0446 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction Evap vent valve has only one purpose. It closes in order to seal the vent so the EVAP system can pressurize and ensure there are no leaks. Evap vent valve is usually supplied Batt. voltage with key on. The ECM's driver controls the ground, and when grounded, activates the valve (closing it). If the ECM detects a short to ground, and open,or a short to battery voltage on the control circuit, P0446 will set. Code also may refer to ECM detecting that EVAP system is unable to achieve or maintain vacuum during test.
Now , did you just get gas? remove the gas cap, and have it checked, tighten it down good,, have the codes cleared, and then check for codes again,, this may be all it is ,,,
