I would check every single fuse in the car. Blown fuses can cause weird issues like this. While the initial issue with the mechanic does sound like an alarm problem....the rest does not unless the shop that installed it really butchered the job.

Why is a red check trans light flashing on 2005 rodeo, drives ok light flashes all the time

I wouldn't be using any vehicle with transmission issues

May have ruined it already, just using it a few miles-- verse--
actually checking for codes, diagnosing them & making the
required repairs,as with all vehicle issues & all dash lights
that stay on, after your motor is running

Your belt is slipping. That is what is causing both, the squealing, and the battery light. Get yourself a new belt. If that does not fix your problem, then your gonna need a new belt tensioner. Hope this helps, James Booth. Please rate this. :)

For the past few months the "Check Engine" light

This doesn't sound like an alternator problem at all, It sounds like an EGR issue or vapor lock issue.

mechanic is in error
smoking on acceleration after idling ( at lights etc) is valve stem seals
blue smoke on acceleration while travelling is an indication of excessive big end bearing clearance overloading the oil control rings
you don't say what type of transmission you have but if it is a CV transmission it could be a failing drive belt in the transmission especially if you have added normal atf oil at any time

time for a new/rebuilt computer for your 1 gear issue sounds like a few stripped gears or synchronization issue in the transmission you need to take your truck to a transmission repair shop get the sensor checked and sync bar checked for any broken pieces and metal shavings may also need to replace you slave cylinder make sure it goes in and out have someone sit in car and press clutch in you get under the front and look before clutch assembly for little black bar that is going in and out

1993 Mecury Capri Timing Belt? Fuel Injectors?

If the car was running great and then all of a sudden it started this problem and you did not change the timing belt. Then I would say its not your timing belt. Once a timing belt is on its stays timed until it breaks, unless it looses a tooth on the belt and at that point it would run really ruff all the time or not at all. If it cranks well and idles with a small skip but when you add gas it get worse. I would look at your fuel injectors and spark plugs and wires. start simple and work towards the big stuff. most of the time its simple like plugs and wires or gummed up injectors. Run some good injector cleaner as well. Hope this helps

check the vacuum lines to make sure none of them are off and check the one behind the throttle body and also check out the EGR valve if there is an Autozone around you somewhere they will put it on a tester and test it for free for you.
