Usually you can just grab it and pull it out. or if its tougher you can pry it out with a small screwdriver

1991 f150 headlight switch replacement

pull out the headlight knob to put the headlights on then under the dash on the switch there is a button that needs to be depressed to pull the knob out of the switch. then on the front of the dash where you removed the knob there is a nut that requires removal then the switch assembly can be removed from the dash and lowered to disconnect the electrical plug. install in reverse order.

No dash lights but have headlights on 1996 volvo 850

Need to check the dash light dimmer switch first. You need to remove and access the switch and check for power to and thru the switch. It controls all the panel lights for the dash.

Headlight switch

Remove the front dash plate, and remove the switch. If im correct for the year, the switch "pulls" towards the driver, and has three positions. Off, parking lights, and headlights/all. This switch wears out over time, and it may be the problem. Look at it, and with the battery disconnected, prod around at the contact points and do a continuity test. Good luck!

Headlights go out when driving hit the dash and they come back on

by hitting the dash to get the headlights to work it sounds like you may have a bad headlight switch as the wiring to the switch is separate from the dash board wiring and by hitting it you jar the switch enough to activate the headlights.

Head lights go out trying to locate the relay ?

I *think* the relay is in the fuse box under the hood on the driver's side, but it may not be the relay.

On my 99 S-10 the problem with the headlights going out turned out to be the parking brake switch (something THREE dealership shops could not figure out). The parking brake switch is under the dash and is, of course, immediately above the parking brake. You will need to remove trim the panel under the dash first.

You need to be a contortionist or skinny to get to the parking brake switch. If you have a kid who can help you have them get under the dash! Use a standard cordless screwdriver WITH a six inch extension to remove the one screw that holds it into place.

The is one wire that attaches to it. Assuming the problem with the headlights is indeed this switch, you can temporarily get the headlights working by grounding this wire (I used a short length of wire with a spade connector).

I picked up a new switch from a dealership for $3, installed it (which is hard to install than the remove due to the tight location), and the headlights started working normally.

How a switch like that can go bad is a mystery to me. It is very basic and composed to two pieces of copper in a plastic case (the plastic looks like Bakelite to me).

What started this mess? tailights, fog lights, brake lights....

The relay has nothing to do with the tail lights, but replacing the switch sounds like a good idea. There's a nut holding it in place, see to get an idea of the construction. And the price. This is not worth fiddling about unreliable workarounds...
In addition, if fuses 15 and/or 16 burn frequently there might be a problem with the tail light cabling.

Good luck

How is a headlight switch removed from 1991 Jeep Laredo

To remove switch, first take off plastic dash covering, then remove the nut that holds the switch onto dash, or, if there is a seperate section around switch remove that first. To get the switch "button" out of switch, there is a small button on the top of the switch, hold it down and the button and shaft comes right out. Reverse to install
