Question about 2002 Kia Optima

While i was changing my egr valve i seen a short hose that didnt go to anything on firewall apprx one inch long no place for it to attach what is this and where does it go??

On most cars this goes to a metal tube coming from the Catalytic or Catalytic feed tube and it could be missing a Electro-Vacuum Solenoid that makes the EGR work.

On the Makes I am familiar with, it has to do with Pressure differentiation on EGR flow. The short hose is often Silicone and very expensive for its size.

Because this hose is Silicone, it can withstand high heat and can be attached directly on the hot EGR backpressure tube. The tube may have rusted off and been taken off. Nothing will work properly without it.

If it was poking out of the firewall from inside, it may be a drain hose from the ac ductwork inside the car which allows condensate water to drain when ac is on(you see asmall puddle of water under the car in summer when parked) its normal

Between the engine and firewall. there is a metal tube that connects to the exhaust manifold and the EGR valve. EGR is close to the throttle body. On this tube you will see two other tubes coming off it, with rubber hoses attached. On the other end of the rubber hoses is the DPFE sensor. It has an electrical plug, wit two wires.

How do i fix a code 33 insufficient egr flow


first thing you should do is determine if the valve has vacuum to it start the engine unplug the vacuum line located on top of the valve place your fingertip on the end of the hose and raise the engine rpm slowly go to around 3000 rpm you should have a steady 3 to 5 inches of vacuum if not goose the throttle a few times to see if you get a signal for second or too during the throttle snap if you do or have the steady signal then the next step (with the engine running) is to place a small hose onto the vacuum port of the egr valve if you do not have a vacuum pump you can **** on the hose to simulate the vacuum signal and open the valve manually the engine should stall or or cutout and run rough until you release the suction on the hose if it does not change the idle at this point the valve will need to be removed and the egr passages will have to be cleaned with the engine off once again apply vacuum to the valve you shoul be able to hear the valve open or feel a slight pop when you release the vacuum if you cannot the valve is bad if you did not receive the vacuum signal at the beginning of the follow the vacuum line from the egr valve to its source (not sure witch style of egr system you have there is several ford used from 85 to 95 and you could have any one of them just depends) so lets just start with this for now FYI...all these test need to be be done with an engine a full operating temperature

I have a 1990 ford 460 EFI cylinders 1,2,6 has no change or little in RPM when spark plug wires removed.The three spark plugs has black carbon on them. I replaced them with new ones with new wires.Co


check that the egr valve is not stuck open remove it and cover the hole on the intake side and see if it goes away or with engine running remove the vac line from the valve and install a short length of hose and suck on the hose to draw a vac on the valve it only takes 3-5 inches of vac to open it the engine should stall or run even worse if it is not stuck and if it was stuck open you didnt change anything

Where is the EGR pressure feedback sensor?


Should be very near the center of the rear valve cover, possibly on the back side of the valve cover. It will have two high temp rubber hoses connected to it, and an electrical plug. If you can find the egr tube, those rubber hoses connect to it on the other end.

You may have a bad cable. Look on the firewall toward the passenger side. There is a valve with 5/8 inch heater hose attached. Manually change the position of the valve. If you now have heat the problem is with the cable which runs from the valve to the dashboard temperature selector.

Open your hood. The EGR valve is attached to the metal emissions tube above the intake manifold and next to the firewall. It is a round, metal cylinder with a rubber vacuum hose running from the top of the valve.

The EGR valve will be mounted on the intake manifold, and may have either wiring or a vacuum hose attached to it. Type 'EGR valve' into Google images, and you will see what it looks like.

How to install egr valve on 2000 mitsubishi mirage 1.5


  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the air cleaner and intake hoses as required.
  3. If necessary, detach the EGR temperature sensor connector.
  4. Tag and disconnect the vacuum hose from the EGR valve.
  5. Remove the mounting bolts and the EGR valve from the engine.
  6. Clean the mating surfaces on the valve and the engine. Make sure to remove all gasket material.
  7. Inspect the valve for a sticking plunger, caused by excess carbon deposits. If such a condition exists, clean with appropriate solvent so valve seats correctly.
To install:
  1. Install EGR valve with a new gasket in place.
  2. Install the mounting bolts and tighten as follows:
  3. 1.5L, 1.6L, and 1.8L engines—7–10 ft. lbs. (10—15 Nm)
  4. 2.0L engines—10–15 ft. lbs. (15—22 Nm)
  5. 2.4L and 3.5L engines—16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm)
  6. 3.0L engines—8 ft. lbs. (11 Nm)
  7. Connect the vacuum hose to the EGR valve.
  8. If detached, attach the EGR temperature sensor.
  9. Install the air cleaner and air intake hoses as required.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation System
Operation

This system reduces the amount of oxides of nitrogen (NO x ) in the exhaust by allowing a predetermined amount of exhaust gases to recirculate and dilute the incoming fuel/air mixture. The diluted air/fuel mixture reduces peak flame temperature during combustion, which in turn inhibits the production of Nitrogen oxides. The principal components of the system are:
- EGR tube (connects a passage in the intake manifold to the exhaust manifold)
- EGR valve
- Electronic EGR Transducer
- Vacuum hoses


Component and System Testing
  1. Check the condition of all of the EGR system hoses and tubes for leaks, hardening or kinks on the rubber hoses. Repair and correct these conditions before proceeding any testing.
  2. Be sure that the hoses at both of the EGR valve and EGR valve control are connected to the proper fittings.
  3. Be sure the electrical connector is firmly attached at the valve control.
  4. To check the EGR system operation, connect the DRB III scan tool or equivalent to the 16-way data link connector. The data link connector is located on the lower edge of the instrument panel near the steering column. Follow the scan tool instructions.
  5. After checking the system with the DRB III scan tool, proceed to the EGR valve leak and control tests, then repair as necessary.

Loosen, but do not remove, the EGR tube to intake manifold screws

The EGR valve attaches to the rear of the right cylinder head.
  1. Remove the vacuum tube from the electric EGR transducer solenoid. Inspect the vacuum lines for cracking, poor seal due to hardness, or other problems. Replace with new hoses if necessary.
  2. Remove the electrical connector from the solenoid.
  3. Slide the transducer up and out of the mounting bracket.
  4. Loosen, but do not remove, the EGR tube to the intake manifold screws.
  5. Remove the EGR tube lower screws at the valve.
  6. Remove the EGR valve and transducer.
  7. Clean both gasket surfaces and check for any signs of leakage or cracks. Replace the components if any such damage is found or if the valve fails the tests.

To install:
  1. Loosely install the EGR valve and a new gasket onto the cylinder head.
  2. Using a new gasket, attach the EGR tube to the valve and tighten the screws to 95 inch lbs. (11 Nm).
  3. Tighten the EGR tube to the intake manifold plenum screws to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  4. Tighten the EGR valve to the cylinder head screws to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
  5. Reconnect the transducer solenoid to the vacuum fitting on the manifold.
  6. Slide the transducer into the bracket.
  7. Reconnect the vacuum lines and electrical wires to the EGR transducer.

Found the info!!

This Dodge EGR valve is a certain kind of device that is mounted right on your intake manifold which controls the amount of exhaust gasses back into your engine.
On a 2005 Dakota with 4.7 liter engine (non-HO), the EGR valve is located near the intake manifold on the driver's side right up against the firewall. It's hard to spot as it sits lower than the intake manifold. To change it, remove the electrical connector. There's a red tab that needs to be pushed to one side and then you have to squeeze down on a tab to get it free. Using a 13 mm socket, remove the bolt that you can see. I had to use a 3 inch wobble extention and then a 8 inch extension with a deep well socket to reach it with my 3/8 inch ratchet. There's a second bolt that you can't see between the EGR valve and the firewall. With a little trial and error and a lot more luck, you can reach the hidden bolt with the 3 inch wobble extension and a 13 mm deep well socket. Attach the ratchet after the socket is on and remove. This one isn't easy and if there's any Dodge engineers reading this one, a couple of extra inches of clearance between the valve and the firewall wouldn't have killed you no matter what the cost accountants said. With both bolts removed, you should be able to pull out the metal pipe that connects the manifold to the EGR valve out of the manifold (Pull to the right) and then you can lift the valve out. For assembly, the metal pipe connecting the intake manifold the EGR valve has to be removed and reinstalled on the new valve. It's held on with 2 5/16th" bolts. You should put the rear bolt on tight, but leave the front bold loose for the reinstall as some adjustment is necessary to get it put back together and the rear is a pain to tighten when installed. Line up the bolts that attach the valve and get the rear 13 mm bolt (The one you couldn't see on disassembly) started. Do not start the other 13 mm bolt as you'll need to pivot the valve and pipe to the left in order to reinsert the pipe into the intake manifold. Once the pipe is in the intake manifold. Start the other 13 mm bolt and tighten both 13 mm bolts and then the 5/16" bolts holding the pipe onto the valve. Reinstall the electrical connection. Please don't forget to rate!!!!
