Hi john , sure sounds like you may have unplugged the coolant temp sensor or didn't get a good connection at the sensor , location , in between two exhaust ports on the side of the engine that has the oil fill and pcv .

ECT sensor circuit high voltage , indicates the 5 volt reference is returning to the ECM and not being reduced down thru the resistor in the ECT sensor , as in unplugged or defective unit . a good test might be to unplug the ECT sensor and put a variable resistor in line and see if you can fluctuate the gauge . i like to use a variable pot from radio shack , 0 - 500 ohms for test like these , to verify gauge is working correctly .

How to replace head gasket

Head gasket replacement is a very involved procedure. There are many steps and specifications to the process, and you would probably be best served to purchase a Chilton's repair manual for your specific vehicle from your local parts store. If your pretty good with tools, it can be done in the driveway with patience and attention to detail. I will warn you, those are very close quarters and it helps to have some creative wrenches/sockets/extensions at hand. By the way, what symptoms do you have? I have replaced intake gaskets on GM V6 and V8 by the dozens, have replaced about 20% as many head gaskets. Sometimes they have the same symptoms!!! Much easier and cheaper to replace too. Fel=Pro even has an updated steel replacement intake gasket set to get rid of the junk plastic stock ones.

I have a 1997 Chevy Blazer that is overheating and is leaking coolant. It is not the rad hose because I have already checked that. It is a part that is attached to the engine block, directly above the...

Ihave a 96 s10 lt blazer First of all the steering coloum is now where near the engine block and the bracket you mention is for the throttle cable and the cruise control cable and has no gasket for any kind of a seal with the intake manifold. The 4.3 and most chevy engines have a problem with the intake manifold gaskets if you are over heating then likely the intake manifold gasket is leaking you should check your engine oil for antifreeze that will look like a fomey white yellowey residue and also check the radiator for engine oil floating on the top under the radiator cap. This is a big problem with chevy you can't let espesecly the 4.3 ever over heat. There is olny 8 bolts that hold the manifold to the block and there all in the four corners nun in the middle Y ou can save the engine if you fix it now but it is the intake manifold gasket that is leaking

Code say ox sensor bank 1 that the motor is running lean i replaced ox sensor , light was out for 10 miles than light came back on

Check plugs see what they look like a lean mixture will look light in color ,compare to the other bank. They need to look all similar, detect a lean fireing cylinder or cylinders on one bank, Could be fuel delivery, from an injector ! Or leaking intake manifold gaskets or bad hoses, leaking vacummn.

I have replaced all 4 ox senors before I replaced intake man. gaskets. It is a 97 chevy W/Truck with a V6 auto, auto trans. 2WD. now service engine soon light came on after about 200 miles, it will go off...

First did you clear all the fault codes after your repairs? The reason I ask is po131 is bank one oxygen sensor, po174 is engine lean from faulty oxygen sensor, and po171 is engine lean condition, possibly from vacuum leak (intake manifold gasket?), pcv valve, etc. To check for vacuum leak at intake, start engine and gently spray starting fluid around intake gasket. If rpm raise slightly while doing this then there is a vacuum leak(stay away from air filter intake and housing though), and the gasket will need to be replaced again.

93 blazer runs better when check engine light's on

Could be a temp sensor or similar too, and believe it or not, the price to have the vehicle scanned for codes, and fuel pressure tested if necessary, usually ends up being cheaper in the long run, rather than play hit & miss, and replace a bunch of parts by guessing.
