Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I start my car and everything sounds like normal, like its going to start but it doesnt start. the gas light is still on but have put gas in it already about 5-8 gallons worth. when i drove it yesterday the light didnt turn on till this morning. lights work, radio works, windows too. so there is some power. someone told me to check the starter and the fuel injector but not sure how or where that is. please help!

You may need a mechanic for this.
If the engine cranks the starter and battery are ok.
It if cranks but does not start, you would need to know if you have spark to the plugs, fuel to the injectors and normal compression.
To answer your other question, you would remove the spark plugs and use a gauge to check compression.

thank you, do i need to buy a gauge for this check? where do i find it? do i remove the spark plugs from the engine to check them if so, how do i check them? how do i check if there is fuel to the injectors? sorry for all the questions... my husband is deployed in afgahn right now and now im without a car since this morning. i can do simple things like change my oil, tires, and a few other things. would really like to see what i can do before taking it in to get worked on and spending money we really dont have. i saw somewhere online that it is bad to run tank on low a lot. could this be the problem?

SOURCE: 2000 Ford Expedition Starting problem

If the fuel gauge drops off when you are driving then its a sending unit problem that means you have to drop the tank and replace the float and sending unit. This is a common problem for alot of cars because of cheap gas. If you have to drop the tank check the fuel pump canster for dirt because of cheap gas. Replace the fuel pump strainer and fuel pump filter. If the car or truck has about 100,000 miles you might want to change the fuel pump at that time also just to cover your back. If you take it to a shop they will charge you at least $900 to start. But if you do it yourself it will cost you about $200 dollars maybe alittle more.

SOURCE: my 2003 yukon won't start.while idling car ran out of gas

you are either lacking SPARK or FUEL. You put 5 gal in the tank, but is the FUEL PUMP working ? The lights and radio operating only indicate ther is power in the battery.. Hope this helps.

Please Check your injector. Lack of fuel must have caused a fault in it.

Have an expert see to this for you.

Good luck.

SOURCE: engine wont start,,battery works...starter works...not sure if its fuel pump or what the problem is

It might not have enough fuel pressure. Try spraying carb cleaner into the throttle body when you crank it to see if it fires.

this sounds like bad battery conections. take a part the terminals and clean off the corrosion. more than likely the is some corrosion that is hidden and once everything is clean and tight it should fix your problem.

The emission light came on because when you had the gas cap open the "EVAP system ran its test and thought it detected a leak in the system. The light will clear itself after it doesn't se the same problem after a set amount of drive cycles. make sure you keep your fuel cap on tight to prevent this in the future.

As I just said in my last post It sounds like you have a fuel injector that is stuck open. Is there a strong gas smell in your exhaust?
