Question about 1999 Toyota 4Runner

1 Answer

I have a 1999 Toyota 4runner and anytime it is 85 degrees or hotter outside it will die while sitting at a light unless you put it in nuetral and rev the engine. Can you help with this?

This does not happen during the winter months. It begins in the Spring when it gets 85 degrees or hotter outside. I've taken it to the dealer three times and they sitll haven't fixed it. I'm about to turn the car over to our teenager and need this fixed first. Please help.

If the immobiliser is not an issue the next time it happens remove the starter relay and swap with any other relay except fuel pump and ignition. Some times just pulling out and replacing works as the contacts on the relay do not have a good clean contact and provide too much resistance.Sure sounds like a relay begining to fail.good luck

SOURCE: What'll happen if I dont fix P0420 code in my 2003 Toyota Corolla

in reality nothings happen, and your saying what do you need to do so you will not encounter this problem again well honestly you cant depend on life on catalytic so i suggest to do your general tune up like changing spark plug, wires, check timing, fuel filter, oil change the way they should be change so it helps the engine burn near stoichiometry because during the oxidation happening in your catalytic if your engine rich or lean or misfiring it could cause a defective catalytic converter.

yes it could be a fuel related problem, when was your last tune up, it could also be a spark issue, old or corroted spark plugs will sometimes not put out the correct amount of heat to ignite the gas correctly till it runs for a while, if the check engine light isnt lit, it will almost have to be something simular to this

I have problems starting my 1999 toyota 4 runner in the morning

Your question now, certainly not a motor problem I think you should put your car of nozzle cleaning and throttle body, that is, throttle light should, then it has no problem if you do these problems haven't solved that you should check the cylinder wires and plug if you have any questions or hope you earlier to solve

Lights came on when car off. battery dies

I had a similar problem only my car would stay running after I turned it off. It also had a problem starting. if I turned the key just right it would start, otherwise it would not turnover. turned out to be the solenoid switch in my 1999 4runner.

1999 toyota 4runner, 140K miles: for 2 weeks, have problem starting when cold in morning. takes 3-4 clicks and foot on gas pedal to start. now also problem starting when warm after driving for 30mins....

Sounds like a sticky throttle if you can't keep idle. It won't hurt to try.... you can try a quick cheap trick by spraying a little carbon remover (buy at any auto store i.e. autozone, oreiley's) inside the throttle, open the valve, spray just small amount, close it back up and rev it a few times and repeat. It removes the carbon film after long use. fixed my idle issue in my cars. If its really bad you might have to clean it thoroughly but i highly doubt you have to do that.

pull the vac line off going to egr valve and plug off the vac line and drive it to see if it will still stall.but if i was a betting man i would say that it will not die and you will need to replace the egr valve this is a common problem.if it sets a check engine light cause you unplugged the vac hose you can reset by pulling the efi fuse that is under the hood in the fuse block and keep it out for about 30 sec or taking the battery cable off. good luck and i hope this will help let me know how i did and if i can help you any further...........

whilst driving air is flowing through the rad ,so no problem ,stationary for any length of time and yes it will overheat for a variety of reasons.Make sure it only has antifreeze and no water ,fit an aux electric fan manual controled from an old vehicle in the scrappy .
