A dead battery and the alternator not working will cause this.. the engine requires a minimum 12.5 volts to run the computer..if not it shuts down..check the battery and see if it has power if not replace or charge for several hours and retest it..repost with findings..

If you havent replaced the battery I would start there. If the battery has a dead cell in it then it will effectively remove the charge that your alternator is putting out causing your vehicle to stop running because it has no power. I would jump start the car without the battery hook up and remove the cables and see if it runs that way. If it does you have a bad battery.

Most likely your alternator is bad. Best thing to do is take it off and take it to your local parts store and have them test it.

Sounds like your alternator is not charging or your battery is not holding the charge. Have them both checked out for free at Pepboys or Autozone.

It only starts with a jump and dies out soon after you take the jumper cables off but while its on it will go into gear, but it starts to smoke

If your charging system isn't working, It will drain your battery voltage, and eventually stall. Jumper cables supply voltage from another vehicle. You will need to get the charging system tested. If you can use a volt meter, you can get an idea if it's charging. You normally have 12.5 volts at the battery posts, with the engine off, and around 14 volts running. This is if it's working correctly.

2005 Town & Country Van dead battery after short trips

Possible dead cell in battery, most likely a fault in the charging system. First, Jump Vehicle to get started then remove the Negative cable. If the vehicle dies when you take the jumper cables away or when you disconnect the negative cable your alternator or charging system is faulty. If the vehicle runs without battery connected you have a bad cell in your battery, replace the battery.
