The vehicle was cold when it was started, would this have anything to do with the oil meter going up and down if it is a blown gasket?

There some type of red corrosive stuff in the radiator, would the radiator need to be changed?

Vehicle cold, remove radiator cap. see if coolant pushes out of radiator. if so, blown head gasket. if not recheck thermostat and or installation. make sure to bleed air from cooling system. while running burp upper radiator hose with hand. upper hose will get hot once system is operating properly.

SOURCE: 1996 buick roadmaster keeps overheating:

A shotgun approach to repairs can really rack up the bills.

If your symptoms are loss of water and you have replaced the thermostat, you more than likely have an issue with steam. And that steam more than often comes from a bad head gasket. Most head gasket gasket failures seem to be confined to the water side initially, but let it go on bigger damage will occur.
You can buy a litmus test strip to dunk in the coolant. It will indicate if there are exhaust residuals in the water and thus a gasket failure.

However it may just be something simple, given that you have just about replaced everything:

have you given the radiator a good hosing inside and out?
is the radiator fan running when it should be?

SOURCE: smell antifreeze, no leaks, gurgleing behind drivers side dash.

there is air in system causing gurgling/set heater to defrost and check for sweet smell. do while stopped if core is leaking windshield will fog up and be hard to clear.

SOURCE: Have no heat. Have replaced heater core,

I don't know your vehicle, but does it have a blower door tucked in where the heater core is? If it DOES and that's broken then it could be the whole problem. It would mean it isn't switching from the A/C side of things to the heat side of them. Hope this helps, good luck! Also, just looked up the proper name for what I'm talking about, it's called a "blend door" and I think your car has one. It's what I would check, again, good luck!

flush system, replace radiator. use a compatible antifreeze coolant mixture. Splash out and use demineralised (battery top up water will do) water to keep the system cleaner

2000 durango won't blow hot heat, temp is 210 degrees, replaced thermistat

what motor? i have a dodge ram 4x4 with a 5.9 and the thermostat is rated at 195. if you havent noticed any coolant loss, its not your heater core. try bleeding the system (starting the car with the radiator cap off, and then filling with antifreeze after the thermostat opens up) because sometimes air caught in your system will do that.

I have a 2000 dodge ram 1500, my antifreeze keeps leaking but i don't think it is coming from the radiator, my buddy is telling me he thinks its the water pump what do u think

it could be anything, this is certainly not a problem that can be diagnoses over the internet. i would start by performing a pressure test, that should make any external leaks evident. that being said, water pumps are typically a more common failure then a radiator. good luck!

did you use pure antifreeze if so remove it all and add a 50/50 mixture because antifreeze will not heat up good if its pure. needs water to allow good heat.

Heat 2001 dodge durango

a bad heater core will just leak. it could leak alot. do you ever smell antifreeze? check the coolant level. it can get pretty low before it will overheat. the thermostat should be ok but there could be corrosion. when you had the water pump replaced was the cooling system flushed? 2001, its probably due for a flush. what coolant does it take? (green or orange)
