Start by warming up the engine, and then shut it off when it is up to operating temperature, and open the hood.
Carefully feel the heater hoses to see if they are hot.
If you are unsure of which they are, ask someone who knows.
They are about 1 inch in diameter and are found at the rear of the engine attached to the firewall.
If they are hot, the problem is likely the flap inside the heater inside the car, which is controlled by a vacuum line or a wire cable.
Someone will need to dismantle the heater box under the dashboard to see about the air flap.
If they are not hot, feel the radiator hoses to see if they are hot.
If the radiator hoses are hot, and the heater hoses are not, you will next check the hot water shut off valve which is in front of the firewall, and in between 2 pieces of one of the heater hoses.
This valve is controlled by a lever on your dash board, that is marked hot or cold, and may have the colors red and blue on it.
Those valves usually fail by "sticking" closed, because lots of people only use the heater a few months of a year.
The valve is opened and closed by a wire cable or a vacuum hose.
If the valve works freely, you may have a "stuck" thermostat in the engine, which would not make enough heat to warm you.
Nowadays, engine thermostats usually stick open when they fail.
A symptom would be the radiator hoses and the radiator are warm but not hot.

First check coolant level, if that is ok then check thrermistat, still no luck it might be the heater core. After that point I am not sure hope that helps

There should be a heater control valve on the passenger side of the engine compartment. Make sure it is opening and closing when you turn the heat selector form full hot to full cold.

If that checks out make sure the temp guage is getting to the normal operating tempurature. If it is not than suspect the thermostat is stuck open.

If that checks out make sure the coolant level is full in the radiator. If it is than I would suspect that the heater core is plugged. Backflushing the heater core may help.

1990 lincoln town car 5.0 heater won't heat, but the fan and the air conditioner works fine, a new radiator was installed also before i bought it...engine don't seem very hot ..????

If the engine is not getting up to normal temp, I would replace the thermostat. Both heater hoses have to be hot to get heat inside the car.

My heater won't blow hot in my 2001 Jeep Cherokee

Does it leak any antifreeze on the floorboard or anywhere? Common problem with the jeep cherokee that the heater or A/C will cause it to leak and had to replace the whole unit.

Heater does not turn on

If you have a gas hot water heater that won't stay on, check to see if pilot light is out and relight it if it is. If you have an electric hot water heater that won't stay on, then you should have an electrician check the wiring.

Heater turning hot then cold then hot then cold

Check your engine coolant level, if it's low you won't have enough fluid in your heater core and thus no heat!

Car heaters not very hot

try changing the thermostat and make sure all the air is bled out of the system this should help your heat problem.before changing the stat with the motor at operating temperature grab the heater hoses to see if they are the same temperature or not.if they are the same then change the stat.if not the same temp then the heater core may be plugged or partially plugged and will have to be changed.still change the stat as they do get tired and won`t work properly.

Heater not getting hot but blower is working

Without more information, I can tell you that you have a problem with your heater core. Check coolant levels and make sure you aren't low on coolant. If that isn't an issue, make sure your heater core isn't bypassed. In Texas, I see them bypassed instead of repaired because it hardly ever gets cold here. You could also have a dirty heater core that isn't allowing the heat transfer. The only other thing it could be is an issue with the temperature blend door/actuator. If it isn't opening properly to allow the warm air from the heater core to enter the ventilation system, you won't get hot air.

1998 lincoln town car when i turn the temp to 90 it still wont get hot have changed the thermostat, and flushed heater core but it still won't get hot the AC works great just don't have no heater...

Just a stab at it................see if there's a vacuum or electric operated valve in the heater hose lines.Trace it out.The heater hose goes from the thermostat area at intake manifold thru the heater core,and back to water pump area. don-ohio
