My car wont start. I replaced my battery but it still wont start. Tested the alternator and it is good. Something might be draining the battery but not sure what?

This car has always ran good. I have new spark plugs and wires.

Does the engine spin over and not start? Or turn the key and nothing happens?
New spark plugs and wires won't have anything to do with the starter and battery keeping the engine from spinning when you turn the key.
Need more specific explanation. Thanks,
Scott

When i first tried to start it clicked..but wouldnt turn over. I charged the battery all day and then drove it around for about an hr. It acted like it wanted to die at stops signs . I then stayed home for the night. Got up the next day and it was completely dead again. So i cleaned the negative and positive cables hoping maybe they were just gunked up. Tried again to charge it all day and then start it. It started but a few hrs later it was dead again. Got a new battery. Tried that. Went to start it after a night and it was dead again!

SOURCE: My battery light is showing

Here is a procedure to isolate a battery drain I found elsewhere and has already proved very useful several times.

Remove negative battery cable from the battery. Using a 12-volt test light, hook one end to the negative battery post the other end to the negative battery cable you just disconnected. The test light will glow or “light” if there is a drain. If the “light or glow” is faint, that is probably normal draw for the clock or computer. If the “light or glow” is bright, then there is a large drain. That should be corrected. Now start removing and replacing the fuses one by one until the light goes out; that one will be the circuit with the drain. ***Remember to hold in the button in the door jam for the interior lights.***

SOURCE: Car wont start, starter is trying to turn over but can't do it

You may have a drain on the battery as well as trying to start the engine. You could try jumping a feed to the starter solenoid and see if it is more willing than usual. If it is - find the short. If not, it could be time for a new starter solenoid. They do get worn and covered in soot internally, and therefore make poor connection.

Try disconnecting the negative battery cable for a minute or two. Then re-connect cable and start the car. Good luck.

New alternator, battery, starter but battery dies overnight and hard too boost shop tested battery and alternator both check good???

If a good battery is losing charge overnight then it is probably being drained by something left on! The usual areas to look at would be the boot light or glovebox light, check these or anything that might be staying on when the ignition is turned off!

Check charging system and won't start

Your alternator is probably going bad. Without enough power coming from it, it drained your battery, which is why it wont start. You can test this yourself with a multimeter, but if you dont know hiw, just remove the alternator and have it tested at autozone. Replace the alternator, charge battery and you are good to go. If the alternator tests good, check the wiring around it. Could be a bad wire,

Alternator tests good wont charge battery

I'm sorry to say it could be the computer.
The computer controls idle speed as well as alternator output.
If the check engine light is on you should get it scanned for trouble codes.

My 1998 kia sportage does not start, something is draining the battery, had the alternator, started and battery tested, all good. So what's draining the battery!

The #1 most common cause is lights being left on or lights coming on at night when the temperature drops. Lighted visors are a common problem.

My car battery keeps getting drained. what is draining my battery.

Are you sure that you have a problem with something draining the battery, or do you have a problem with the alternator not charging the battery? I would have the alternator tested to make sure of that before spending hours and hours troubleshooting electrical problems.

Basically, to check a problem like this you will need a clamp on amp meter. Then you pull fuses from your fuse panel and see where the drain is. Make sure you have a good layout of your fuse panel and fuse sizes (a digital photo is also a good idea) before starting, so you don't introduce problems.

The car is shutting off after starting then draining the battery. I have tested the battery and it is still good. Is this an alternator problem or something else?

Yes, the majority of vehicles can be started and then the battery completely removed from the vehicle and continue to run. If your Jeep dies and then wont restart (or is hesitant) because of a dead battery, this would most likely be the alternator connections, or event he alternator itself. Obviously the alternator is not supplying current to the vehicle. Most autopart stores can check the alternator for you, often free of charge and the easiest placed to start.

Battery wont stay charged alternator checked its ok on 1987 nissan maxima

There must be something wrong with the battery or some electrical gadget is draining the battery power.

Check battery or trouble shoot by using another battery.

Good luck.

1996 nissan maxima battery is not holding charge..

I'm thinking that either you have something draining power all the time or your battery is not getting its proper charge.Have you tried removing a battery cable when you park it to see if that makes any difference? That would tell you if something in the car is draining power. Have you had it tested to see how much power the alternator is putting out, should be close to 14 volts, and did you test to see if that power is getting to the battery? There might be a problem with the feed to the battery. Hope this helps.

Something electrical is draining battery on 1987 XJ6;

Have you checked the alternator? The alternator may not be charging the battery. With engine running, check the voltage at the battery (it should be ~14V). If it's less than that, your battery won't charge properly. You can take your alternator to auto store to have it load tested also to be sure. Sometime alternator issues don't show up until it gets hot. Defective alternators have also been known to drain the battery after the car has stopped.
