You need to begin by changing the thermostat. if you dont know how go to an autozone and they will assist you.

if that doesnt solve the problem you need to change the heater/ac blower relay.

Hi Joe, my car is doing the same thing but oddly enough the rear window defrost works just fine. My heat will come on when it wants, stay on for a few minutes and then immediately start blowing out freezing air....would your recommendation be the same?

When turning on heater in my dodge stratus its hot until you turn the vents up then it starts blowing cool what do I do

Hi Carmen, I'm AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair.

I look forward helping with your problem!

Carmen, 4 things can cause this problem. (1) The coolant level in the radiator could be low and not allowing enough coolant into the heater core. So first thing for you to do is check the coolant level. (2) A door issue inside the A/C housing can also cause this problem, if one of the doors is stuck open or broken or a cable problem or a door actuator problem can cause this. (3) The most common problem that I find is a clogged heater core. When the heater core gets clogged then the coolant coming into the core only fills enough of the core to fill hot with the low speed fan, but when you turn it to high it feels cold. (4) The other problem I have found is the Thermostat STUCK OPEN, what this does is it will not allow the coolant to get hot, and it feels colder as you drive down the road. Car is overheating and blowing cold air

Coolant is too low. Coolant was not properly refilled, so there are large air pockets in engine head. DO NOT DRIVE until proper purging and correct coolant quantity and level are established.

To completely refill the system, you need to get the heater core full of coolant (the refilling has to be done with the heater on m?ximum, so to allow coolant to enter and fill heater core. Tha is the reason you don't get hot air. Amclaussen.

2002 dodge stratus heat blows out cold

Start with the simple things first. Is your coolant level full? If not, then fill it first and see if you still have the problem. (With a cold engine, start the car and take off the radiator cap. Check to make sure the coolant is not being pushed out quickly. If it is,then you may be looking at a head gasket or worse.) If you still have the problem with full coolant levels, then the next place to go it the thermostat. it is normally easy to replace, but you must make sure it is installed properly (with a new gasket where applicable). Fill the system back up and you should have great heat.

My heater only blows hot air when the car is moving and cool air when I sit at idle. Also the inside window fog up if I try to use the defroster mode 1st thing.

Hi:
Your heating system is dependent on hot coolant to be circulated through your heater core, which a fan blows across, and you get heat. If you only get heat when you are moving, that means that either your engine is low on coolant, or the engine's water pump is not working well. Check your coolant level when your engine is cold.

Heater is blowing cold air 1999 dodge stratus

A heater blowing cold air can be a few things. have all of these things check for proper operation to find the source of the problem.
1. Coolant level
2. Thermostat
3. Water Pump
4. Heater control valve
5. Make sure that the heater control doors are closing when you switch from hot to cold.
6.Last but not least if the climatic controls are electric it maybe at fault.
Good Luck

Heater

Check coolant level and then check to see if both heater hoses are hot. If on is hot and the other luke warm or cold, you might have a plugged heater core. If both are hot then you might have a problem will the what they call a "blend door actuator". Both need to be diagnosed be a mechanic because they will required the dash to be removed to be repaired. $$!!!
Good luck
Harry.
