SOURCE: Timing chain on 2000 Jaguar

The jaguar v8 has 4 timing chains located on the front of the engine behind the aluminum timing cover.
You can inspect them by remove the valve covers but to replace them you need special factory tools to set the vehicle up on TDC.
The secondary timing chain tensioners are a common failure on this vehicle which will cause the chain to break.
You can replace the tensioners to prevent this failure just by removing the valve covers and exhaust sprocket, but if this is not the issue the chains should be lifetime, not like a timing belt which is required to be replaced by time and mileage.

SOURCE: how to unlock truck jaguar stype when no power

The button or the fob will not work with low or no battery power - you need to use the key. There is a keyhole on the boot under the trim or under by the reg. plate lights according to what facelift model you have.
good luck.

The timing gear tensioner on my stype jaguar 2001 was replaced after the chain guides broke...a common failure for that year with plastic tensioners...would it not be a normal procedure to check or replace...

Failure to change your oil every 4,000 at most,
takes out VVT Actuators

When you do the guides you do the tensioners
Again no oil flow & gunked up

You can see the VVT on scan tool parameters & also
should mess with fuel trim data

If you change the upstream O2 Sensors at 100,000,
spark plugs every 3 years & clean the MAF you at least
have a clean start, with the exception of the cam & chain issues

Jaguar stype 2000 v8 engine unsafe mode

It is usally caused when the engine detects that the engine is in an unsafe condition that common sense. But its mostly caused in the v8 jags due to harness problems.Check the mass air flow sensor if u can see some open wires that can short to ground from the raditior brackets.Or the harness located on the front left side of the engine running downward. the harness usally shorts with groung from the topleft side due to improper installations from the mehanics....(kuwait)(Abu Ali)

2000 Jaguar S Type. How do I check to see if the caqr is firing?

They make a little gauge that you put on a wire to see if have voltage in it. If not, you can pull a plug and ground it and crank it over and look for a spark. Pull off the coil wire and listen for a crack, Squirt some fuel into a cylinder and see if it will fire. A couple ways to check. Hope this helps.

Hi im im changing the chains can you tell me the

Special tools are required, you CANNOT do this at home. Take it to a shop that does Jaguar work. If you dont know what you are doing, serious engine damage will result.
