SOURCE: 01 mercury sable traction control & low coolant lights stay on.

check for something stuck in the wheels and as for the coolant light get the car running and up to warm temp and start adding coolant to the reserviour bottle until it is up to hot level because there maybe a bubble in the line but also if might be a bad switch in the reservior bottle itself

sometimes the radiator is just too plugged to respond to flushing. (happens a lot with a marginal radiator because when flushing, the solvent simply goes around the plugged area, and cannot build up enough force to break it free). From what you have written, this may be the case. Is the electric fan coming on and off at the right times? if not this also can give you similar problems. You have done the right things but may not have gotten the desired result. Hope this info helps you a bit.
good luck

SOURCE: low coolant light

When that happens it is usually because the coolant level membrane sensor is faulty.

Repair is not expensive, but must be done by a qualified mechanic.

Regards.

There is no radiator cap on this car, the radiator is a sealed unit with the over flow tank and the pressure cap and the cap for the overflow tank is one and the same, and is located on the passenger side of the engine compartment. and is rated at 16 psi. It is set up like this due to the fact that the overflow tank is the highest point in the cooling system.

SOURCE: 1999 mercury grand marquis occasionally overheats,

Check the antifreeze for oil, pull your dipstick out, see if antifreeze is in oil or smells sweet or over full, sounds like you may of a bad head gasket. You can also check this by having a compression test done on the cylinders.

If thermostat is bad will it cause coolant to run out under overflo bottle cap?

No

If it was bad to the point it did not open far
enough, your car would overheat before it pushed
coolant out the plastic container & then that wouldn't
be the main issue you had to work on

Where is the radiator cap 2001 mercury cougar V6 diagram

The drain plug is actually just a screw that requires a large phillips head to remove. It is located on the passenger side at the bottom of the radiator. The best way to locate it is to find the tube that runs from the coolant reservoir to the radiator and look underneath where it hits the radiator. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Engine overheat and oils spots under the car this 2000 sable has only 50K miles and the engine overheats, coolant levels are ok, no leaks (coolant), there is also an oil leak 3 or 4 drops overnight as far...

Have the cooling system flushed and replace thermostat. For oil leak try some oil stop leak from auto store, they work on small leaks( will take a couple of days to work).

First check that the thermostat was installed correctly. It will not work properly if it was installed upside down. If this is the original radiator, it most likely is plugged up with deposits and corrosion. It needs to be replaced with a new one.

No heat

if engine temp is normal after running awhile. i would try to flush the heater core.(disconnecting the heater hoses from engine and flushing separately) ford cars and trucks have a "brown coolant" problem and the coolant will eventually clog heater core.

Over heating

Yes. It could be several things: a)water pump defective b)radiator core blocked or grille restricted c)electric coolant fan inoperative or blades broken d)thermostat faulty e)radiator cap not maintaining proper pressure. Good luck!
