Not sure I am following your question.
If the engine cranks, the battery starter and alternator are working.
If you have to crank the engine for an extended period of time, it is not getting spark or fuel or both.
If it happens mainly during cold weather, and the first start of the day, I would check fuel pressure before and after you crank it.

Testimonial: "The engine does crank, although a little "sickly" sometimes and it is at the start of the day or after it sits for 9 hours while I'm at work. I thank you!!"

Check fuel pressure. Sounds like a bad pump or plugged fuel filter.

SOURCE: 99 cougar won't start

I am having this problem right now! Same year! The lights and all turn on. When I turn the key, the starter solenoid energizes, as I hear the "click". The battery shows 12.5 volts, and it won't crank off of a jump.

The car started fine 2 days ago before I removed the alternator (battery not charging, new battery, also "new" alternator) for testing. Once it tested good, I was told to try a new battery cable to the alternator. I removed the old, which had a junction block about half way down the cable, and installed the new, which does not. Now I can't get the car to crank, or even try to crank - just clicks. Any help would be appreciated, because the car is not mine and I want to blow it up.

Even though your current radio has an AUX button the radio is not programmed to utilize it.
There is no 'easy' way to add the '07 Job 2 and later year model's factory Aux input.
You will need to buy an aftermarket solution. Something like this

Have you had the alternator check for a bad diode it may not put out enough to keep the battery charged after 10 to 14 days. The bridge in the alternator could be weak. Hope this helps.

Car has brand new battery and won't even crank

Sounds like a poor connection somewhere, bad alternator(not charging the battery) or a simple relay

My 2007 Milan won't start in cold weather.

Sounds like nonsense to me

Everyone drives a vehicle a couple days a week

If the battery is over 5 years old it may be bad

When you say you had it checked- we need technical
details of how it was tested & it's age

Was the alternator tested & again how?

If you haven't had anything tested in over a year,
you can expect things to not work as they should

Obviously your issues are somewhat weather or temp
related,so a fresh start & a different shop that knows why
your there & what you expect resolved is what is needed

Hard cold start - engine will crank for a minute or more before it catches. runs rough until up to operating temp.

check voltages in the battery and have your alternator checked a bad battery could delay engine starts until the alternator can charge it enough to start and if the battery is still bad then it will run off your alternator drawing alot of power sucking the battery dry and feeding off your alternator

My Milan has had problems starting. I changed

Was the new battery charged? If the new battery worked for a few days it is possible the alternator is bad and it is not charging the new battery. Start the vehicle and measure the voltage at the battery, it should be somewhere between 14 and 14.5 volts with the engine running. If less than 12.5 volts I would suspect the alternator and remove it and have it tested at a local parts store, This is usually a free service. Also could be a wiring problem or dirty battery cables.

A 2007 Milan might be still under warranty if it has less than 36,000 miles on it. If under 36,000 miles take it to the dealer for possible warranty repair.

Hope this helps.
