Most common problem is that the fuel pump takes a dive and needs replaced. you can try to have someone hit the bottom of the fuel tank with a soft rubber hammer while cranking the engine over and alot of times the pump will start to work for a short time and then stall out. if this is the case then the pump in the tank will require replacement.

there should be a fuel pump relay under the hood I think most gm vehicles do checkto make sure ther is power to the relay you may need another person to help turn the ignition on and the will be power for a few seconds to one of the 4 terminals that the relay plugs into

My 96 Jimmy 1500 xt struggles to start on the first turn of the key. Then starts perfectly every other turn afterwards. Mechanic thinks it might be the coil. I think fuel is ok. Must be spark issue?

Have you replaced your fuel filter lately? If not try it. My friends Chevy will do that same thing and then we change the fuel filter and it's good to go. Also try turning you key on for a few seconds before trying to start it and see if you can hear the fuel pump running. You should hear it run for a few seconds and if not you may have a fuel pump relay or pump acting up. You could also do a fuel pressure test with a pressure gauge when it is cold also.

96 jimmy shuts off while running and will turn back on, changed control module and the throttle body and MAF sensor. told by dealer to change this and problem would be fixed, problem not fixed.

i have had problems with the fuel pump relays heating up and loosing contact. it will not trigger a code and the only way to track it is to attatch a fuel pressure gauge to the system and wait for it to die. chances are you will see the pressure drop to 0 psi.

Relay should be in a fuse box under the hood. Check the right and left side next to the fender wells. If you find that the relay will not correct the problem then the fuel pump when out.
