SOURCE: How to install a new fuel pump in my 1998 Honda

the gas gauge contacts get corroded by the chemicals in your gasoline over time, the only way to fix that is to replace the fuel sender unit...unfortunately the sender unit is usually incorporated into the fuel pump. fuel delivery problems like you describe could be clogged or dirty fuel injectors...if it's dying out on you as you drive it probably is indeed the fuel pump...usually an expensive fix. try an auto wrecker to find one for about 100 bucks.

It sounds like a change over valve is faulty. U have 2 check over valves 1 on each side of rear wheel wells. Also a change over valve that switches 1 tank to other. I recomend replacing all 3 valves for peace of mind, because when 1 goes the others follow. Hope this is helpful!

SOURCE: need to replace fuel pump on a 1999 jaguar xj8.

Typically Jaguar fuel pumps are the submerged type (i.e. in the fuel tank) so you will need to remove the fuel tank or there might be a panel in the the tank that you can remove to get the the fuel pump. Good luck.

1998 jaguar xj8l, it wont start, i can hear the fuelpump come on but also hear gas pouring back into the tank, is this normal or has my fuel line come loose?

Have verified the injectors are energized and if the ignition coils are firing the spark plugs. Do your rpm indicator show the engine is turning and sending a signal to the rpm gauge.

Car was starting perfect until wife tried to start when petrol tank empty have put petrol in car it runs appox 2-3 seconds then cuts out appears fuel being cut off

sounds like fuel pump is running but can not produce enough pressure. try pressurizing the tank with compressed air(may have an air lock) and if that doesnt work consult your local jag dealer for tips before you replace the fuel pump....

Car started not startin well if was left 4 a few day s will start and miss fire then run good now she won't start at all not even fire were do i start ?

you need to sort out if fuel or spaark issue. Can you hear fuel pump in gas tank run for 5 seconds when you turn the key to ON? Spray a burst of starting fluid into the throttle body or bgi air intake hose and see if it starts for a few seconds. If yes, then you have a fuel issue, maybe need a pump. Need to drop the tank to do that though. Check for 40 psi of pressure first.

If not, then it could be no spark. bad crank sensor, cam sensor, etc.

Is the yellow check engine light on too? If yes, get codes to find cause.

Need to change fuel pump on 1999 xj8 jag

Hi ,
Fuel pumps are no always straight forward, they sometimes retain fuel under pressure and have to be discharged in order to be replaced. If your so sure it's gone (not an easy diagnosis) the replacement instructions will be on the replacement pump instructions or an owners manual. DON'T TAKE CHANCES WITH PRESSURISED FUEL ! Good Luck

I was driving my engine stop running as if it was out of gas it would start up and cut off for about 4 time after that the engine would just spin. I have a new fuel pump and filter

There's one more fuel related device, and one more fuel screen you can check. I do not know the specifics of your vehicle, but most fuel systems will have a fuel pressure regulator. When this fails, even though you have a clean filter and new pump, the proper fuel pressure is not achieved. In vehicles with an In-tank electric fuel pump, there is a fine screen that the fuel is drawn through prior to entering the pump. If you ever ran low on gas, then this screen is likely to have been clogged up by the deposits in your tank. If your vehicle shuts down, and you can start it by spraying starter fluid in the intake, then you should stay on the fuel system checks until you get it right. If your issue is a no-spark condition, then you should begin to look into the distributor and associated components. I have a lot more advice, but I'd like to narrow it down a bit based on further testing by you. Lets get this figured out !

My 1998 xj8 seems to drain the fuel line back to the tank over night and needs a couple of start ups to stay running. Is there a check valve in the fuel line that may be faulty? Bob Timoffee

In most car this age there is a fuel pressure valve on the fuel pump itself. The pressure valve is also most the time your fuel filter and it only allows the fuel to run one way. My guess would be that valve is stuck in the open position and allows the fuel to run back into the tank. It is most likely to be located on top of the tank mounted right on the fuel pump on the outside of the tank.
