Question about 2002 Nissan Maxima

1 Answer

Radiator I have a 2002 maxima. I had the radiator replaced but now the car is running hotter than usual and the fans run more. I think the replacement radiator is thin and is a one core radiator. I,m thinking about a two core radiator a Silla, or Koyo brand. Is this a good idea?

Jeep over heats & leaks antifreeze won't start after

The question is very vague especially as you have not completed the problem. However, with regard to the overheat problem it could be one of many things. 1) Leak somewhere in the hose system. You need to run up to normal temperature, get underneath and see if there is any water coming from any of the hoses. If so either tighten them or replace any worn hose.
2) A faulty thermostat. You might find that the thermostat is sticking and rather than mess about with it - replace it. If it is jammed open then there is no temperature control and the water (including antifreeze) will get hotter and hotter until (like a kettle) it bubble out of control.

3) Damaged radiator or fan operating at radiator. Fiat - check the radiator to see if there is any damage. A small stone could have pierced the delicate skin. If this is the case then you will need to replace it. Run the engine up to normal temperature and check to see if the fan(s) at the radiator are working. If not then it could be one of three problems. 1) there is a faulty connection to the radiator - check to see if the wiring loom is plugged in 2) there is no power to the wiring loom either from the rad end or the sender end - and 3) there is no 'message' being sent from the thermostat to tell the fan to cool the rad down.

Unless you are really competent and know a lot about both the heating system or the electrics it would be best to drop it into a mechanic who would give it the once over.

My last point would be DO NOT keep running the vehicle as you could damage the engine beyond repair. Remember what the Radiator does - it cools the engine to a running temp.

Steps to Bleeding radiator on 02 maxima

Take the radiator cap off, top up the radiator and the overflow tank, and run the car until normal operating temperature is reached. Shut off the car and replace the radiator cap. This usually gets all air out of the coolant system. If you have a bleed valve on the thermostat housing, crack that open until coolant runs out, then close.

Temp above half

It can be thermostat problem. Also inspect the radiator fan, if its not running, get the radiator flushed, if the fan runs and the thermostat is new then replace the cooling system radiator pressure cap. If it is not holding pressure then the engine will run hotter than usual. ---------- Thanks.Helpmech.

New thermostat good temp at all speeds get to 65 runs hotter 70 hotter 75 even hotter wonder if fan temp switch is going bad fans only come on for 10 or 15 seconds?

high speed overheating are a good indication. something is wrong with radiator. check coolant level, make sure the fans are working, and check radiator for broken fins or dirt and debris in radiator fins. if air is not going through radiator, it will over heat. if all is fine. replace radiator cap to see if this fixes problem. but check radiator fins first for debris.

2000 Maxima Running Hot

Try replaceing the engine fan controller, make sure there are no bugs in the radiator, there is another coolant sensor cost about $22.00 for it the fan control costs $40.00 bucks since you say it's ok when you have AC on my guess is the fan comes on for the ac and keeps it cool. You also may need a new fan motor, non AC side. sometimes the shats slip and the fan slips on the shaft of the motor an causes it not to turn fast enought.

your fan will also come on when the defroster is on and when the airconditioning is on so it could be something to do with the inside temp controls
