Question about 1993 Pontiac Bonneville

1 Answer

93 bonneville runs and drives good, but dies sometimes.

When it dies, if you wait awhile it will start again. No unfamiliar sounds when trying to start it.

Whty does my jeep die while just driving down the road but not all the time and than you have to wait awhile befofe it starts

Couple things come to my mind, is the battery or alternator. Once the car is running it then shifts to the alternator for power. You could have a loose cable to to/from the battery or alternator, a thermal short in the alternator. To check these our just inspect the wiring from the alternator and battery, ensure there is no corrosion and the cables are tight. If so, you can test the alternator by running the car and putting a multi-meter on the battery, it should read about 14 volts when the car is running, if not then the alternator is bad. On the battery side visually look at it, if it is not square or the sides are bulged out the battery has an internal short. Both of these can be check at your local auto store, ie AutoZone. O'Riley's, etc.

That is the simple, the harder would be another sensor, Here is a link to another site that has a Jeep dying while driving with troupleshooting

When i drive my 2005 escape it will run fine then sometimes when i stop it will die and when i put it back in park and start it again and put it in drive it dies again if i wait awhile it will start can...

I do not see it being a Converter problem. It sounds more like one of the engine management systems is not working. It can also be a Vacuum leak throwing off everything.

Alot depends on whether the "check engine" light has been set. You can get a free scan from Autozone or Oreillys to name a few places. You can also try using a water spray bottle while the engine is running.and spray around the Intake manifold gasket and any Vacuum fitting you see.

If there is a Vacuum leak the engine will lose RPM or die when you spray the spot that is leaking. If it has been awhile since you replaced a fuel filter it may be restricting the gas enough that you are getting heat-related Vapor lock since you need to wait before restarting the vehicle.

The scan would be the best idea to start with.

91 acclaim v6. starts and runs good, but once its been running for awhile (hour or so), and i turn it off, it doesnt want to start back up, or does and dies. wait 2 hours and it starts right up. recently...

Sounds like either you have a clogged fuel line and or clogged fuel filter or the fuel pump is failing. What happens when the vehicle runs the fuel pump heats up, as it heats up it produces less and less fuel for your car. Eventually ti stops working until its cool again on faulty pumps. Given the age of your vehicle I would say you need to replace both pump and filter.

check the ignition control module and the crank sensor. the way it sounds is the module you can have it tested once you remove it crank sensor a little harder and can not be tested. mounted behind crankshaft pulley.
