Question about 2000 Dodge Durango

2001 Dodge Durango 5.9 L. RMP surges at all speeds. HELP.

My Durango engine will surge at all speeds, more noticable at higher speeds (45-60mph). I have taken it to the dealer and replaced these parts with out any fix. Both O2 sensors, TPS, and fuel pressure swith. It also had a plugs, wires, cap and rotor replaced. Could it be ECU? I assume the dealer checked the cat. Please HELP.

Just replaced the gas cap, temp. sensor, and thermostat. Seems to running better. Temp. sensor makes sense, because if it's reading to cold it might send in more fuel and O2. Any agree? The dealer could'nt fix it! Leave some thought on this, thanks.

Surging

Hi billberger2

When the air conditioner turns on, the car computer also increases the engines revs to counter the load of the air con. It should not generally be noticeable however. Will do some research to see why. :)

When I engage the cruise control is holds speed but rmp surges periodically around 2-300 rpm.

It could be your transmission trying to find the right gear it will jump around on diffrent road surfaces and going up hills/down hills. It is usaully noticable on cruise because it is at a constant speed and your thinking why would it need to shift. Sometimes it doesnt even really shift the gear its so inbetween it just jumps back really fast.

2000 dodge durango 5.9 surges and stalls at all stop lights.

first check all vacuum lines especially the one behind the throttle body to make sure none of them are off also have it tested to see if one of the coil packs on the spark plugs is bad and it hasn't had a tune up in awhile now is a good time to do so fuel filter plugs coil pack on the plugs if needed and the drive belt checked

Dodge ram 1500 engine rpms surge at freeway speed

those sensors could cause the issue, clean the MAF 1st, also clean the idle system using the following procedure, the IAC can cause cruise surge. I use this to cure these problems all the time.

Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve (IAC) and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.
