Was the fuel tank cleaned out when the pump was replaced? You could be sucking up garbage from the bottom of the tank to the fuel pump strainer causing the loss of power, Then your shut it off and the garbage comes of the strainer and you have power again

I have a 1999 ford mustang, i tried to take it out of storage but wont start, it turns over but is not getting any fuel pressure at all. i would like to know where to start looking for the problem, and...

Hi- Sorry to hear you have a problem.

!- the Fuel pump is inside the tank.
2 The fuel can dry within sealed units like the fuel filter.
If you are getting fuel past the fuel filter then I would get a can of WD40 and spray 3 to 5 seconds into the breather - intake. Then try to start the car. If it fires or tries to run OR runs as long as you spray then you know for sure it is a fuel problem. Sometimes the fuel will work it's way past the blocked a dried unit causes - enough to get it home to where you can change out the filters.

As a TEMPOROARY FIX - - you might get a 2x4 about 19 inch long. bang it GENTLY [ to not bend the fuel cell] on the bottom of the tank. Sometimes sitting makes the fuel pump develop a flat spot and do not want to turn without a little help. This doesn't always work but often it will 'get you home' to where you can do a more through fix.

I hope this helps - please RATE ME - if this helps at all.

03 mach 1 cranks no start

A 6 year old car with only 5,900 miles on it would indicate that it was sitting for long periods of time. I would check the fuel filter first if it does not seem to be getting fuel.

I would also check the fuel pump shut off switch, should be located in the trunk on the drivers side. (owners manual will tell you for sure)

Having issues replacing the fuel pump

Hopefully there is not much gas in the tank. There are just a few things that need taked off to drop the fuel tank. The hardest may be the exhaust. But may not be in te way. There are two straps that carries the tank. Unbolt the side at the back of the car. Then it should drop. Might want to use a jack to hold the tank up if has a lot of fuel. The pump is in the tank.
