Question about 1990 Chevrolet Lumina
Most likely the tranmission seals are getting old and are not very pliable when cold and so will not allow the shift. The transmission should be rebuilt which would give it new seals and therefore shift. There are some additives at the local parts store that will soften the seals and in some cases make the transmission shift. Autozone, Advance auto and most part stores will have something for that.

2005 Equinox's are known for water leakage problems around the cowl and windshield areas. Water leaks in and causes shorts in the main wiring harness and eventual corrosion between the fuse panel's grounding to the floor under the shifter console. Reroute a new ground wire to the body from the fuse panel in the shift console. Find the source of water leak. GM paid to have mine fixed.
