Most likely the tranmission seals are getting old and are not very pliable when cold and so will not allow the shift. The transmission should be rebuilt which would give it new seals and therefore shift. There are some additives at the local parts store that will soften the seals and in some cases make the transmission shift. Autozone, Advance auto and most part stores will have something for that.

Thanks for the hint. Actually it's a used transmission I bought and installed a few months ago (that was done by an expert). I had no problems in summer. How many additives bottles should I add to the fluid? Is it true that it may need up to a few days to soften the seals? Thanks!

Summer time will not create a problem for the seals because they are soft and pliable; its cold weather that makes the seals hard and non pliable so that is why the shifting problem occurs in the cold weather. Follow the instructions for the trans additive that you get. Transmission rebuilders do not always change everything as they should and since I do not know the rebuilder I can not say what he did. Good luck with that trans.

SOURCE: 2005 Chevy Equinox P0742 & P0700 problems. My

2005 Equinox's are known for water leakage problems around the cowl and windshield areas. Water leaks in and causes shorts in the main wiring harness and eventual corrosion between the fuse panel's grounding to the floor under the shifter console. Reroute a new ground wire to the body from the fuse panel in the shift console. Find the source of water leak. GM paid to have mine fixed.

1997 oldsmobile cutlass stuck in park until car warms up

There is a safety switch inside the gearshift assy. (below where you shift the gear handle) this safety switch locks the gearshifter in park until you press the brake pedal. pressing the brake pedal is supposed to release it. obviously it's not, so there's soda, coffee, or other substances making it sticky, or it could be just worn out. Take the cover plate off & look for this plastic piece attached to a cable(covered in black plastic) if it needs cleaning, use alot of warm water & a shop-vacuum. if cleaning doesn't help, then replace the cable (may be part of the shifter mechanism.)

Hi I have Honda Odyssey 2000 v.6 3.0lt, recently the transmission plays up, it doesn't shift gear, but engaged in third gear all the time and D green light keeps flashing. I don't know why it

Possibly the Throttle position sensor (TPS) This controls a number of things one of wich is when the transmition changes gear. I recomend you have the vehicle scaned though & that should give you an answer.

At first blush, it sounds like the distributor cap isn't seated. Since it's happening when the engine is cold and at night, I'm guessing condensation is causing the problem. Try spraying starter fluid on the cap the next time the car doesn't start. This will dispel any condensation. If the car starts, that would be a good place to start.

sounds like the rockers or lifters have some play due to wear.you don`t say what rpm you are shifting at other than high rpm.by changing the oil you have increased the viscosity of the oil as its new and not dirty and thin and cold oil is thicker than warm oil.you might want to try a heavier oil to see if it helps.you may not get this noise out unless you replace components or adjustment of rockers if they are adjustable.if its not very bad you may have to live with it.
