First think to check is the coolant level. If your Malibu is a 2001 you have the 3.1 engine that has problems with the intake manifold gasket leaking coolant. When the coolant level gets too low the first thing that is affected is the heater.

I have a 2001 malibu. The cars seem to not have any heat. it just blow air . i dont know what the problem is. and if i replace something like that what would be the cost ?

The heater matrix is usually part of the engine cooling system, if water isn't flowing around properly you probably won't get any heat in the cabin.

Problems could be 1) Air lock in the cooling system, 2) Thermostat failed or gooed up, needs attention or replacing. 3) Finally could be the water pump, needs attention or replacing.

2001 Chevy Malibu is getting hot before the fans come on.Had blown head gasket.Replaced that and the fan motor.Of course when the a/c is on the fans come on.Turn it off, they stay on but otherwise the car...

on my 2000 malibu 3.1, the fans come on at about 220 and go off at 210. tempurature should read about a line past the half mark. if hotter then this, check coolant level to be sure its ok. and there are no leaks in system. good-day! you might want to check the coolant temperature sensor. Also, there is a relay for the fan in the fuse box. engine is not considered over heating unless it gets to the red line portion of guage about 250 degrees. the fans work for a/c so it must be the coolant sensor thats not turning fans on when it gets hot.

1999 Malibu Cooling fans don't come on. Country driving is fine. City driving and a few stop lights and it over heats. Temp Gauge works fine. If I un plug the sensor then fans come on but Tranny and Engine...

country driving at high speeds keep engine air cooled. but in city there is not much air to cool the engine. check the sensor for the fans. relay for fans must be ok, cause you said if you disconnect sensor then fans run. replace fan sensor. also make sure there is a proper amount of coolant in system. (do this first).

Overheating on a 2001 malibu after thermostat has been replaced. We have replaced the thermostat, however the temp gage still registers over the 1/2 way mark.

Check the cooling fan, its sensor, the relay, the fuse. On most cars the fan is not needed on the highway, but engine overheats it it doesn't switch on inside the city. Also, clean the system with a special liquid according to the directions on the can and use coolant after that, water causes corrosion. While pouring/filling/cleaning, keep the heat switch on max heating to allw circulation via the heating radiator.
