The switch is on the transmission..It is usually a dealer item but you can get one from Rockauto.com for about 1/4 of what the dealers charge.

SOURCE: neutral safety switch

It is located on the side of the transmission, follow the shift cable down to it you will recognize it because it has a electrical wire comming off it and either a shift lever or shift cable going to it.

Under dash driver side look behind the upper arm of clutch pedal and you should see a green and black wire coming from the button (switch) assembly on the firewall. The wires go up above the clutch pedal. About in the middle of under dash on the left side you should see a white connector these wires run to. Disconnect. I just had the problem and not only starts now but not stalling like it was but it's only been one day but tested it pretty good.

2004 nissan frontier intermittent starting problem with shift lock

Shift lock is just a safety feature, so you have your foot on the brake, when you put it in gear. It has nothing to do with starting the car. Intermittent starting problems can be a few different things. Ignition switch, park/neutral safety switch, wiring, and corrosion. If it clicks when trying to start, it cold be loose/corroded battery cables or a bad battery.

I had problems with my 1999 nissan frontier overdrive. It runs great but wont go into overdrive. Took it to auto shop they kept it for 4 days. Replaced Neatrul Safety switch and 300.00 later it still

The Neutral Safety Sw has nothing to do with the
transmission- as far as how it shifts

If the trans is original (14 years old) time to pull it
& rebuild

I think you answered your own question
You authorized the work, paid for it & could
have asked any question you liked ,when you
took delivery of it.

Did you not road test with shop folks, before paying
to see if the issue was resolved ?

Page 169 shows you where the fuse box is located. Check the fuses and if there is one that is blown replace it with the same amp fuse.

Hope this helps.
