My steering wheel has a play, been told that the box is fine and the play is on the steering. what can be done

if the steering box is not the problem check the front end for worn parts and fix. has the rag joint been checked for being worn on the steering colume. what shape are the tires and do they have a belt separation in them, as this can feel like loose steering.

My steering wheel wiggles

You could have an out-of-balance or out-of-round condition on the front tires, but similarly it could be something more serious

-loose front wheel hub
-worn front suspension joint
-worn steering tie rod joint
-loose steering box mounts
-loose steering column u-joint
-loose or word steering wheel attachment

When turning at a slow speed the steering gets hard on my 2001 Dodge Caravan. This only happens occasionally.

This is due to a worn belt or worn tensioner pulley. If that's not the problemthen you have a power steering pump going out or steering gear box going bad.
