Question about 1995 Volkswagen Jetta

1 Answer

I have a 95 jetta and the check engine comes on sometimes.

I have a 95 jetta glx vr6. When I leave the car idling to let it warm up sometimes the check engine light comes on. It is not very often but it has me concerned. Also I am look into a new CD deck for my car too. If any one has suggestions I would be greatful, I would preffer that it be under 400 buck and fit into the dash.

I had this sort of problem on my previous car , it turned out to be a ideller control valve ( electrical problem ) they can be replaced or cleaned out dont ask where it is coz it cost me £170 for a new 1 fitted but it is a reacurring problem so it would be best to find out how to do it and where it is so you can do it again and again without costing you loads.

I have a 2000 vw jetta glx with the vr6 that needs the timing chain replaced there is an upper and lower one. So I was hoping at minimum that someone could post a link to a complete walkthrough along with...

The Jetta vr6 has a timing chain. These don't have to be replaced unless the gear is worn. When worn they will jump timing by a tooth or two. This will cause the engine to run rough. Jetta GLX 1998 (old body), when it rains heavy, car run rough

Sounds like you need new wires and or cap and rotor, had the same problem on my jetta 1.8L when I would drive it in heavy rain it would bog down and misfire. The water blows threw the rad right onto your distributor and wires causing the short (old and cracked or just defective). Try it out I'm sure that will fix it.

You may have a bad coil pack - try moving two of them around and see if the misfire follows the coil pack or stays at the same cylinder. If it follows the coil pack, get a new one. If it stays in the same cylinder, inspect your spark plug wires and make sure the plug is gapped correctly.
